Techniques Series | Masking with This Little Piggy

Techniques Video Masking using This Little Piggy from Stampin' Up!

Stamping Techniques Series

I am loving the new This Little Piggy Stamp Set and just could not resit a spot of Masking with it…. before this series ends next week! But, do not despair… there will be more Techniques Videos! I promise

Video Tutorial How to Create a fun Z fold card using This Little Piggy from Stampin' Up!

How fun is that Pig! Just so cute… and so easy to Mask too.

Miss Piggy is stamped in Basic Grey Archival ink… and then the stamp, stamped off onto a piece of Sticky Note (those ones where the sticky is all over work best!). This is then cut out… yes, it’s fussy cutting… no, I’m not sorry… she’s just so cute! You then cover the stamped image with the sticky note mask… and add ink!

[arve url=”https://youtu.be/ax1fpWGd_00″]

This alternative Z fold card is also quick and easy to do…

Measurements:

Card stock – 21 x 14.8 cm (scored on the long side at 3 and 10.5 cm) (8 1/4 x 5 7/8″, scored on the long side at 1 and 4 1/8″)

Designer Series Paper – 7.5 x 14.8 cm and 3 x 14.8 cm (3 1/8 x 5 7/8″ and 1 x 5 7/8″)

Whisper White – 7.5 x 14.8 cm (3 1/8 x 5 7/8″)

I have used the Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper for this cards…. I am still loving the watercolour effect of them

Carols of Christmas | Non-traditional

Non traditional Christmas Card using Carols of Christmas from Stampin' Up!

I think I mentioned on Monday’s post that I tend to steer away from the classic Red, Green and Gold at Christmas, and today’s card is much more up my Christmas alley! This card is a CASE (Copy and Selectively Edit) of THIS card by the lovely Dani Dziama….. I was totally struck by the Colour Combination and that sheet music background stamp (which I love…. but somehow hadn’t paired it with Carols of Christmas!)

Non traditional Christmas Card using Carols of Christmas from Stampin' Up!

I love the effect given by using Stampin’ Write Markers on a sentiment like this…. being able to get different colours for different words. There are several tricks to colouring your stamps with marker:

  1. Use the brush tip, on it’s side…
  2. apply LOTS of ink to prevent lines appearing on your stamped image
  3. breath on it before you stamp to re-activate any ink that might have dried

The background is that lovely Sheet Music stamp, stamped in Smoky Slate onto Whisper White card stock…. but there might be a stamp free way to get a similar look very soon……. 😀

Peace on Earth Non Traditional Christmas Colours Christmas Card using Carols of Christmas from Stampin' Up!

The card is finished with some Berry Burst ribbon and a trio of Metallic Enamel Dots… oh and that layer of Silver Glimmer Paper!

Global Design Project #099 | Wedding/Anniversary

Guys Wedding Anniversary Card using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

Well, hello there….. I’m finally blogging on my new site! So, hello, nice to see you…. and to celebrate this special occasion I have this weeks entry into the Global Design Project!

Actually…. its more of a double celebration, seeing as it is my 2nd Wedding Anniversary today! Yay…. I managed 24 months without James wanting (or trying) to kill me! I am taking this as a massive success…. and I do hope it continues a little longer!

As a card maker, and seeing as this weeks GDP challenge was totally meant to spur me into action, I thought I should make a card for James to celebrate… I will update you later as to whether he has bought (or made) me one!

Global Design Project Wedding Anniversary Congratulations card for men using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

Now… a anniversary card for a guy, is a little tricky, but I kept it neutral and I think it works! The Background is stamped using the Sheet Music Stamp set and Smoky Slate ink. To create the effect I didnt ink the whole stamp… but dabbed my ink pad down a couple of times in the middle. Although they are hard to see, I then embossed the heart die from the Eclectic Layers Thinlits into the card stock. I should mention at this point that I used Thick Whisper White rather than standard weight to ensure it embossed cleanly.

Guys Wedding Anniversary Card using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

The card was then completed with a diamond die cut from Silver Glimmer Paper, Leaves die cut from Vellum and embossed with the Hexagon 3D Embossing Folder, loops of Silver Metallic Thread, that cute sentiment (from Oh So Eclectic!) and a trio of Metallic Enamel Shapes.

Your wondering about those flowers… they are lovely aren’t they! Yes, they are fake… think they cost a total of £2.50 off ebay…. and they were (are) my wedding bouquet. I LOVE them, and the sit in a vase in my lounge normally…. but this photo needed some colour, and I thought they were fitting!

What do you think of the new blog look? I am in LOVE!

Techniques Series | How to use a Die as a Mask

I Like You Friends Thank You Card using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

Stamping Techniques Series

I have one card, two ways for you today! I shared a card yesterday using the Oh So Eclectic Bundle…. and I have another for you today! The dies in this bundle are special… some of them cut, some emboss, some cut the image out of the card stock, and some … leave the image in! and it is these dies that we are playing with today.

I created my own mask using the diamond pattern die in this set….

Creating a mask with these dies is super easy… I simply run them through my Big Shot with piece of Window Sheet, but you could use Vellum… I use Window Sheet because that way I can save my mask and use it again! Running Window Sheet through the Big Shot can be a little frightening, as it makes a whole series of strange whaling and cracking noises…. but its OK, it doesn’t damage the Window Sheet or, more importantly, the Big Shot!

Oh So Eclectic Card Masking Video Tutorial from Stampin' Up!

This first card uses the mask with the fabulous New Embossing Paste! I am LOVING playing with this stuff, and I have a couple of videos coming soon all about it. I have coloured the paste here using Night of Navy ink…. but I really needed to add some more ink to get that true Night of Navy colour. Still, it’s not a disaster, just a happy accident! and a learning experience… because next time I know I need to add more!

The second card, made in the video, I ink blended Night of Navy through the Mask. This was I guaranteed myself a true Night of Navy colour! but, I sacrificed that dimension that the Embossing Paste brings.

I Like You Friends Thank You Card using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

This card is finished with a series of die cuts using the stamps and dies in the Oh So Eclectic bundle….

What is your favourite bundle in this years Stampin’ Up! catalogue?

Watercolour Block Stamping with Oh So Eclectic

Oh So Eclectic Card using Stampin' Up! products

Today’s card uses one of my favourite bundles from the Annual Catalogue. Did you know that when you see items bundled together in Stampin’ Up!’s catalogues you save 10%! Awesome… This particular bundle includes the gorgeous Oh So Eclectic Stamp set and its coordinating Eclectic Layers thinlits.

Watercolour Block Stamping technique using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

There is of course a technique at work here…. and as a bit of a sucker for all things watercolour, I couldn’t pass an opportunity to get messy with ink and card stock! The panel on this card is coloured using the Watercolour Block Stamping technique. This is so fun! Here I have selected a ‘C’ sized clear block, and coloured the surface with Stampin’ Write markers in Berry Burst, Fresh Fig and Lemon Lime Twist. Then I spritzed LOTS of water onto it so the ink formed larger droplets, and became almost to the point of running off the block! Here is where things could go a little wrong, as it takes a quick hand to turn the block over and place it onto a sheet of Watercolour Paper….. and then you need patience, because you need to leave it! Let the ink soak into the paper, the longer you leave it, the more intense the colour.

Oh So Eclectic Card using Stampin' Up! products

I left my Watercolour Block while I stamped the rest of the card…. The sentiment is heat embossed in White onto Basic Black card stock and then cut apart… and that flower is die cut from Lemon Lime Twist using the dies in the bundle.

Once the watercolour had been left to soak for about 10 minutes, I removed the block and finished the drying process with my heat tool. Then I trimmed the panel to leave a boarder around the watercolour.

The card is finished with some dots of glitter and a couple of loops of Gold Metallic Thread.

Make It Monday | Hogs and Kisses Note Card Set using This Little Piggy

Make It Monday

Do you ever have those stamp sets where you absolutely HAVE to make something with them the second they arrive in your craft room?! Well, this is one of those projects from one of those stamps! This Little Piggy is just the cutest stamp set…. I mean, who doesn’t love pigs!

When we first saw this stamp set back in April at On Stage Live the room went nuts… partly because the stamps are just adorable, but partly (I’m sure) because the lady demonstrating had put them in tutu’s!!!! yes… I am damn sure I will be making a piggy tutu card really soon! but for now…. here is my Hogs and Kisses Note card set

The note card holder holds 3 note cards and their envelopes…. but there is room for a couple more! Particularly as you get 4 card bases from a single sheet of A4 card stock.

Note cards measure – 14.8 x 10.5 cm, scored on the long side at 7.4.

Matt – 6.9 x 10 cm

Stamped layer – 6.4 x 9.5 cm

Note card box measurements (because this project uses the Envelope Punch Board I only use Imperial Measurements)

Card stock – 8 x 8″

Punch and score at 3 5/8 and 5″

Belly Band

Card stock – 1 3/4 x 11″ (4.5 x 27 cm)

Designer Series Paper – 1 1/2 x 11″ (4 x 27 cm)

The Envelope Punch Board is one of my all times favourite tools… its great not only for custom sized envelopes for those special cards, but also boxes and other packaging.

Envelopes for the note cards use Designer Series Paper measuring 6 1/4 x 6 1/4″ (punch and score at 2 3/4″)

What is your favourite Card Making tool?

TGIF #118 | Embossed Resist

TGIF Challenge Emboss Resist Thank You card using Bunch of Blossoms from Stampin' Up!

Hello!

I know you weren’t expecting a blog post on a Sunday afternoon…. but I am aiming to add weekend posts back into my blog in the very near future… and when I saw this weeks TGIF Challenge I couldn’t pass it up!

Regular visitors to my little corner of the internet will be well aware of my love for techniques, and this week TGIF challenge is one of my favourites; Embossed Resist

TGIF Challenge Emboss Resist Thank You card using Bunch of Blossoms from Stampin' Up!

The Embossed Resist technique is really simple. Stamp your image (in this case, its leaves) in Versamark ink and emboss with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Then add ink over the top… the area with the embossing powder resists the ink and stays white. Simple. I used the leaves from Bunch of Blossoms in the background, and added Old Olive ink with a sponge over the top. For some added texture I varied my usual technique of swirling ink, adding some stippled areas too.

Thank You card using Bunch of Blossoms from Stampin' Up!

The flower is also from Bunch of Blossoms and is stamped in Flirty Flamingo and Smoky Slate, then each petal is individually punched out using the Blossom Builder Punch. I don’t make this flower very often, its a bit fiddly if truth be told… but I fancied something a bit special! That and while I’ve been clearing my craftroom as part of preparations for The Big Move! I found my glue gun…. which is another must for this particular flower!

The card is finished with a trio of glitter Enamel Dots, a sentiment and a few dots of Fine Tip Glue

What is you favourite technique for card making right now?
