Nautical Guy Greetings Birthday Card

Guy Greetings Birthday Card using Wood Textures from Stampin' Up!

Guy cards are always a bit of a challenge… and they are even worse when you make a card and get told ‘its not manly enough’. I shared the card I originally made on Saturday… but this is the card that was eventually given to one of my Brother’s in law for his birthday last week!

Nautical Male Birthday card using Guy Greetings from Stampin' Up!

This is a bit of a CASE (copy and selectively edit) of THIS card by Teri Pocock. After I was left without a card, I turned to Pinterest for some inspiration and came across Teri’s card. I love the circle element with the anchor… and the wood! So, Teri used the Hardwood background stamp… but somehow that hasn’t found it’s way into my crafty stash, so I went hunting for a wood alternative and remembered about the lovely Wood Textured Designer Series Paper.

This paper stack is one of the 6 x 6″ ones, and you get loads of different wood effects in the pack. I am going to NEED another stack soon I just know it! So pretty!

Guy Greetings Birthday Card using Wood Textures from Stampin' Up!

The anchor is stamped in Dapper Denim on Watercolour paper, and I then took an almost dry Aquapainter and pulled out some of the colour to give this watercoloured effect. I love doing this with Stampin’ Up! inks… because they are water based they react well with water and allow you to stamp and colour without having to get ink everywhere!

The watercolour paper is cut out with a Stitched Circle, and matted onto a coordinating Dapper Denim circle cut with the Layering Circles dies.

Guy Greetings Nautical Birthday card using Stampin' Up! productsSeeing as it was a special occasion I stamped the anchor on the inside… and on the envelope too!

What’s your go to for making Manly guys cards?

Make It Monday | Oh So Eclectic Layered Tag

Make It Monday Fun watercoloured tags using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

Make It Monday

Ok, so I have a confession to make…. I was supposed to film a video for Saturday about how to use the Embossing dies that come in the die set I’ve used today… but the end of last week was a bit of a disaster and I didn’t get to it… So, I will leave my top tips for using Embossing dies down at the bottom of this post instead. And I have managed to film 4 How To… videos for Saturday for the next 4 weeks already… I don’t really know how I missed this week! Oh Well…. on with today’s project!

Make It Monday Fun watercoloured tags using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

These sweet tags have been made with the Oh So Eclectic bundle from Stampin’ Up! You can find all the directions in the video below… but here are my top tips for using Embossing Dies.

There are 3 dies in the Eclectic Layers thinlits dies that don’t cut (and a couple more in the Build a Bike set too!). These dies are designed to be used the same as a cutting die, but rather than cut they leave an impression of the image instead.

  • Use your standard cutting sandwich in your Big Shot… Magnetic Platform and two standard cutting plates
  • Use a thicker card stock for a better impression… I like using Watercolour paper, Thick Whisper White or Thick Very Vanilla
  • Add Colour with a sponge or brayer after to enhance the embossing

https://youtu.be/oI116Ukmse8

The tags were created with a 2″ wide strip of Watercolour paper… main as this is the width of the Tag Topper Punch! With the embossing dies, a hint of watercolour and some die cuts this project was done in a flash… what is your favourite quick make? Share it with me over on my Facebook Page I would LOVE to see….

Before I go… I just wanted to remind you about my current Card Class… we are using the gorgeous Oh So Eclectic stamp set and die bundle, along with the Layered Leaves embossing folder and a heap of other goodies to make 10 totally individual cards…. you can find out more HERE!

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge | Bold Happy Birthday

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge Birthday Card using Happy Birthday thinlit from Stampin' Up!

Stampin' Up! Sketch Challenge

Hello! Welcome to the Simply Sketched Blog Hop for September! This month we have been creating with a fabulous sketch from Dee

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge Birthday Card using Happy Birthday thinlit from Stampin' Up!

This card was really quick and simple to put together… once I had die cut all the pieces! I am loving the Happy Birthday thinlit for a quick and easy Birthday card at the moment. Here I cut it 4 times… 3 times in Crushed Curry and once from the gorgeous Champagne Foil. The secret is backing each piece of card stock with Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet before you die cut it… this way when you die cut this intricate die, each die cut has adhesive already on the back… basically making your own die cut sticker! This die is really easy to get lined up so stacking them is quick and painless too.

Measurements:

Card Base – Dapper Denim – 21 x 14.85 cm, scored on the long side at 10.5 cm

Whisper White Mat – 10 x 14.3 cm

Eastern Palace Designer Series Paper – 9.5 x 13.8 cm

Whisper White Mat – 10 x 8 cm

Eastern Palace Designer Series Paper – 9.5 x 7.5 cm

I made this card for one of my brother-in-law’s birthday’s which was last week…. but James said it was girly…. so I had to make another! So, this card has no home…. if you would like me to send it to you, comment below with your current favourite adhesive and I will do a draw on Wednesday (4th October!)

Christmas Countdown | Twist and Close Candle Box using Stampin! Up! supplies

Christmas Countdown Pootles Papercraft inspired twist and close box for candle in a jar using Stampin' Up! products

Christmas Countdown Video Tutorial Series StampinByHannah Stampin' Up! UK

Hello! Welcome to my second Christmas Countdown project of 2017! Now…. the plan is for most of these Festive projects to include some sort of food item… however, I haven’t managed to get into the kitchen this week, so its a candle box instead…. But I hope that you love it anyway!

I have made a similar project before, you can find the video for my 5 sided Twist ‘n’ Close box here

Christmas Countdown Pootles Papercraft inspired twist and close box for candle in a jar using Stampin' Up! products

This Twist ‘n’ Close box is really simple to put together… although it is a little extravagant using a whole sheet of A4 card stock per box, however its such a fun project that I do think it is worth it!

I would offer two pieces of advice before I give you the measurements; 1. ALWAYS test my makes using spare card stock (IE: don’t use your best card for your first go!) and 2. the metric measurements are a bit awkward… this one might be one of those where you go old school with the inches!

Measurements:

Card stock – Cherry Cobbler – 11 x 7 1/4″ (28 x 18.5 cm)

Score on the long side at –  1 3/4, 3 1/2. 5 1/4, 7, 8 3/4, and 10 1/2″ ( 4.5, 9, 13.5, 18, 22.5 and 27 cm)

then, you need to mark the same side at – 7/8, 2 5/8, 4 3/8, 6 1/8, 7 7/8 and 9 5/8″ (2.25, 6.75, 11.25, 15.75, 20.25, 24.75 cm)

Score on the short side at – 2 and 5 1/4″ (5 and 14 cm)

Use a metal ruler to draw a further score line between the mark you created and the point where the horizontal and vertical score lines meet, making triangles… do this for each mark, and make sure that you only make one triangle per mark.

Designer Series Paper – Merry Little Christmas – 6 pieces cut at 3 x 1 1/2″ (4 x 8.5 cm)

Pootles Papercraft inspired twist and close box for candle in a jar using Stampin' Up! products

I would LOVE to see your versions of this box too… share them with me over on my Facebook page, or by tagging me @stampinbyhannah on social media!

I’m So Grateful For You!

Fun Watercoloured Thank You card using Fine Tip Glue Technique and Remarkable You from Stampin' Up!

Today’s card features a fun technique that I have been sharing quite a bit recently… masking with Fine-Tip glue. I showcased this one at a recent Team Training event, and so have a fair few cards coming over the coming month or so that all have some masking. I do have a video sharing this technique over on my YouTube channel too…

Fun Watercoloured Thank You card using Fine Tip Glue Technique and Remarkable You from Stampin' Up!

I am in love with Tranquil Tide, and thought it was the perfect colour for this leave-y card. The leaves are taken from Remarkable You, and are stamped in Archival Basic Black onto Watercolour paper. Once the ink was dry, I covered the leaves in Fine-Tip Glue and allowed this to dry overnight.

Thank you card using Remarkably You from Stampin' Up!Then the next day I added a watercolour wash over the top in Tranquil Tide ink. The leaves covered in the glue remain white as the glue acts as a mask.

The sentiment is stamped in the same Tranquil Tide and punched out using the Everyday Label punch. This punch is just awesome, and a great addition to your punch collection. I punched a further label in black to create the layer behind.

Global Design Project #106 – Oh So Eclectic

Global Design Project #106 Sketch Challenge card using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

Its been a while since I took part in a Global Design Project challenge… it’s been just a little busy around here! but as soon as I saw this sketch yesterday I jumped into my craft room and created the card you can see below!

Global Design Project Sketch 106

I love a sketch with a circle… I think its because I love using circles on my cards. I am still obsessed with the Stitched Shapes Framelits dies, seriously if you don’t own these, they are an absolute must have! so handy to have a set of circles, squares and ovals… for such a good price too!

Oh So Eclectic card for the Global Design Project using Stampin' Up! products

This card uses the Oh So Eclectic stamp set from the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue (have you seen my class using this set yet?) this stamp set is another one of my favourites, along with the coordinating die set and the Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper too. It was a pretty simple card to put together, the strip of Designer Series Paper is layered with a die cut in Berry Burst Card stock. This die actually only cuts the inside shapes, but it is really easy to cut around it and make this fun geometric shape

Global Design Project #106 Sketch Challenge card using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

Then there is a piece of Berry Burst ribbon, one of those Stitched Shapes cut from Vellum, two Classic Labels and a bow in that same Berry Burst ribbon to finish.

You can find a video of this card over on my Instagram! Its the first time I’ve done one of these short videos over on Instagram, but it was loads of fun! will certainly have to do it again!

Christmas Countdown | Chocolate Truffle Boxes with Year of Cheer from Stampin’ Up!

Chocolate Truffle box using Year of Cheer from Stampin' Up!

Christmas Countdown Video Tutorial Series StampinByHannah Stampin' Up! UKOh my goodness, we are already nearing the end of September which means that it must be time to start my fabulous Christmas Countdown series for 2017! Now, I did do something similar to this last year, but this year I have a bit of a twist…. in that most of the projects in this series involve food (although there are a few exceptions!). As a total foodie and a bit of a secret baker, I thought this would be the perfect way to combine two of my passions!

Chocolate Truffle box using Year of Cheer from Stampin' Up!

Shall we look at the papercraft first? This fabulously sized box would be great for a host of things…. but I have chosen to put Chocolate, Rum and Coffee Truffles in mine (more on those in a minute!). This box is 4 x 4″ square and 1 1/2″ deep (or 10 x 10 x 4 cm if your a metric person!) and uses the GORGEOUS Year of Cheer Designer Series Paper. Seriously, this paper is beautiful! It features one of this seasons hot treads…. mixed metals, combining Gold, Silver, Copper and the brand new Champagne foil sheets.

Measurements:

Base – Crumb Cake Card Stock – 7 x 7″ (18 x 18 cm)

Score on each side at 1 1/2″ (4 cm)

Lid – Year of Cheer Designer Series Paper – 6 1/16 x 6 1/16″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm)

Score on each side at 1″ (2.5 cm)

Chocolate Truffle box using Year of Cheer from Stampin' Up!

These fabulous boxes also use the super pretty Foil Snowflakes (loving these… they are finding their way onto a LOT of projects at the moment!), and the Merry Little Labels bundle. Check the bottom of this blog post for a full list of products used, but first….. some chocolate!

How to make Chocolate truffles

These wonderfully rich creations are super quick and easy to make… although they do need some chilling time… and would be a great gift!

The original recipe for these came from HERE, although my version is a little different

Ingredients:

  • 250g Milk Chocolate
  • 75ml Double Cream
  • 2 tbsp Dark Rum
  • 1 tbsp instant coffee granules
  • 200g milk / white chocolate for the coating

Method:

  1. Line a flat bottomed tin with greaseproof paper (I use a plastic sandwich box) and break the chocolate into small pieces
  2. Heat the cream, rum and coffee granules in a small saucepan over a low heat, stirring until the coffee has dissolved and the cream is beginning to bubble around the edges
  3. Remove from the heat and add the chocolate, stir until the chocolate has melted, and you have a smooth mixture.
  4. Pour this into your tin / box / container and allow them to cool and chill for a few hours until fully set.
  5. Cover a tray with greaseproof paper. Remove the mixture from the tin and cut into 24 pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and place on the tray. Pop them back into the fridge.
  6. Melt two thirds of the remaining chocolate over a pan. Remove from the heat and add the rest of the chocolate and stir until it has all melted.
  7. Dip each truffle ball into the melted chocolate one at a time, ensuring each is completely covered before placing it back into the tray. This part is quite messy!
  8. Once each truffle is coated you can add final decoration… I prefer to flick melted white chocolate across mine, but you could coat in cocoa powder

My husband LOVES these…. they don’t usually get as far as being packaging into such a pretty box though!
