White Snowflakes

Stampin' Up! wooden elements Christmas card

I was trying to make a one layer card when this card was born! They card base is Sahara Sand,  with Sahara Sand trees from Wonderland stamped across the bottom to create a woodland scene.

They sentiment and snow is taken from Jingle all the way. This month my newsletter projects all feature the Jingle all the Way bundle, subscribe using this link.

Stampin' Up! wooden elements Christmas card

But the card looked too sparse, it needed something extra. So I began to rummage in my craft room draw of goodies; this draw contains buttons, ribbons, embellishments, and some other odd bits and bobs. These snowflake wooden elements jumped out at me, but they didn’t look right in their ‘naked’ wooden form. So I coloured them with Whisper White Craft ink.

This was quite a task I have to say, I placed the wooden pieces on the ink pad, and covered them with a larger piece of scrap paper. Pressing the wooden elements into the ink pad to ensure they had a good coating of ink. They problem then was getting them off the pad! Paper piercer to the rescue, and they were laid on the same piece of scrap paper to dry. This ink always take a while to dry but on the wood it took even longer. Without using my heat gun to speed up the process (because it is about to die after a long and painful ill period!) I think it took about 24 hours for these pieces to to dry enough to  be stuck onto the card, and even then they were still tacky!

I think it was worth the effort though, because the card is so pretty. I think these snowflakes would also look gorgeous dipped in versamark and heat embossed in white, or silver, or gold…….. *runs back into the craft room to play some more!*

Sketch Challenge reject

Stampin' Up! UK Garden in Bloom birthday card

I am loving being part of the Simple Sketched Saturday Challenge Blog Hop once a fortnight, the hop this past Saturday was awesome! but the sketch really stretched me, it took me ages to be break it down into something I could make. I have started to change the way I look at a sketch, breaking it down into components, rather that seeing it as a ‘map’. But for some reason the first card I made for this challenge, looked just like the sketch, and I’m still not sure I like it all that much!

Stampin' Up! UK Garden in Bloom birthday card

This card uses the Garden in Bloom stamp set and coordinating English Garden Designer Series Paper. The stamps have been used on the top layer to create my own Designer Series Paper, and this is the point when it goes a bit strange in my head – I think it’s the colours, maybe even just that butterfly, but its just not balancing

Stampin' Up! Sketch Challenge Garden in Bloom

The sketch called for a horizontal layer, so I’ve added a vellum strip with the sentiment stamped in Memento.

I’m still not sure, what do you think is wrong with this card!

Happy Birthday! (the awkward family member edition!)

Stampin' Up! UK Crazy About you birthday card

I love my family, I really do, but there are certain family members who cause me a stupid amount of stress when it comes to birthdays!

This past weekend it was James’ youngest sisters 16th  birthday, cue a full week of stress about birthday cards, presents and wrapping! I love my sister-in-law, but making a card for a 16 year old girl I swear is harder than making men’s birthday cards!

Stampin' Up! UK rainbow birthday card

I think I was channelling my inner Laura Bassen when I made this card, I LOVE watching her waffle whilest she is cardmaking on her YouTube channel. Laura makes a heap of cards with rainbow colours, which I don’t do very often. My mum once commented that all my cards were dull, well Mother, this one will knock your eyes out!

I grabbed my Brights collection ink pads; Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise and Rich Razzleberry, to stamp this leaf from Crazy About You. The sentiment is also from the same stamp set, birthday stamped in Rich Razzleberry and Happy die cut from Melon Mambo card stock using the coordinating framelits!

There is a little extra detail on this one, but the camera hasnt’ picked it up very well. I scored a line 0.5 cm round the edge of the stamped piece before attaching it onto a card base of Thick Whisper White with Dimensionals

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge #2

Stampin' Up! UK Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge

Stampin' Up! Sketch Challenge

Thank you for joining us for another Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge! We’re so excited to be sharing this hop with you.  The products used are all available in the current Annual, or seasonal, Stampin’ Up!® Catalogues*.  Simply use the buttons at the bottom of the post to keep hopping!

Stampin' Up! UK Simply Sketched Challenge Week 2

I REALLY REALLY struggled with this sketch! My brain doesn’t copy well with wonky angles, and the angles on the sketch were too much for my little brain to handle. I actually made two cards this week, I might blog the first card I made later in the week. I changed it on Friday when I started writing this post, because I’m not sure if I like it!

Stampin' Up! UK Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge

I am much happier with this card. I changed the shapes on the sketch from rectangles to circles (and so got rid of the wonky angles!). The Designer Series Paper is from the English Garden Designer Series Paper Pack, and although there are some lovely floral patterns in this pack, I really wanted to keep the patterns simple on this card.

The card base is in Soft Suede, with the card stock circle in Old Olive. I have to admit this is not a usual colour palate of mine, but I am trying to push myself on a Saturday and make something a little out of my comfort zone. All three pieces (the two DSP, and one card stock) are paper pierced to add some extra detail, along with the trio of Candy Dots in Soft Suede

Stampin' Up! UK English Garden Birthday card

I needed to introduce a horizontal element onto this card (as suggested by the sketch) but didn’t want to cover the circles too much. I have also recently found a love for vellum, I have always liked putting vellum on cards but at the moment I am having to stop myself from putting Vellum on EVERYTHING! The Vellum is stamped with a sentiment from the Garden In Bloom stamp set – which coordinates with the Designer Series Paper – stamped in Early Espresso.

Garden in Bloom

Stampin' Up! UK Garden In Bloom

I’ve got a bit of a confession to make this morning, this is not a card orginally designed by myself! I know, its shocking! but I’ve been feeling really unwell this week and trying to create was somewhere near the bottom of my list of priorities (curling up under the duvet came top!) and even still as I write this post my voice has gone AWOL.

However, Stampin’ Up!® do an amazing job at providing us with an enormous amount of inspiration and ideas in their catalogues, I could whip this card up in less that 10 minutes!

Stampin' Up! UK Garden In Bloom

Have you spotted the ‘You can make it’ boxes in this years catalogues? Well, this is one of those cards, there is also a whole section of my webstore dedicated to Project Ideas

Stampin' Up! UK Floral Birthday card

This card uses the Garden in Bloom stamp set, and coordinating English Garden Designer Series Paper. I love this stamp set, it allows you to create a wonderful array of gorgeous layered flowers, making you look like a true artist!

I have made on slight addition to this card since I took the photos, when I pulled this card to write this blog post I found that the vellum had begun to curl slightly at the left hand side. Vellum is a bit of a nightmare to attach with glue, as it is see through you can quite often spot the adhesives underneath. I orginally stuck it down with glue dots under the stamping (that also hold the bakers twine). But I didn’t want to stick a glue dot at one end, so I grabbed my 2-way glue pen, dabbed a dot onto the card stock and pressed the vellum down. Its definately dry, and I can’t see it! Awesome!

How you you attach Vellum?

Welcome Baby…

Stampin' Up! UK baby card

Last week we had a new addition to our family. My cousin and his wife welcomed a 3rd daughter, baby Molly.

I haven’t got any pictures of her (although, she is the cutest!) but I do have the card I took with me to meet her

Stampin' Up! UK baby card

This cute card uses a card base of Watermelon Wonder, with a layer of Very Vanilla and another of the gorgeous Sweet lil’ things Designer Series Paper.

The stamped images are from Zoo Babies, although you won’t find the sentiment there! I merged two stamp sets the create the ‘Hello baby’ with the Hello coming from Crazy about You and baby from Zoo Babies.

Santa’s Gifts …. lots of love….

Stampin' Up! UK Santa's gifts Christmas card

I’ve been loving making some fancy fold cards again recently, although I’m not totally sure what this style of card is called! I think my favourite Christmas stamp set this year is the lovely Santa’s gifts, the combination of cute Christmas images and really handy sentiments wins me every time!

Stampin' Up! UK Santa's gifts Christmas card

This fold is so easy to create. Take your A4 card stock and cut it in half on the short end. This will give you two long piece of card stock. Fold in half to create your card base, and then fold the front of the card back towards the folded edge.

The tree is stamped on a piece of Very Vanilla cut down to 2 3/4 x 2 3/4″ (6.5 x 6.5 cm) matted onto a piece of Garden Green. I’ve used my Stampin’ Write markers in  Garden Green, Cherry Cobbler, Crushed Curry and Crumb Cake, to colour the tree.

Stampin' Up! UK Fancy fold Christmas card

I don’t always decorate the insides of my cards (yes, I know, I’m really naughty!) but with this style of card, interior decoration is a must! The Designer Series Paper is take from Farmers Market, and coordinated perfectly with the Cherry Cobbler card base.

Love Ya Floral Wings

Stampin' Up! Uk Floral Wings Card

I was cruising through Facebook one day last week, and someone (sorry, I cannot remember who, or find the card they made) had combined Mint Macaron and Basic Grey. I was totally inspired by this colour combination, and created this card

Stampin' Up! Uk Floral Wings Card

This card uses the Floral Wings hostess exclusive stamp set. There are 7 hostess exclusives at the moment; 5 at the back of the Annual catalogue, and 2 in the Autumn/Winter. These stamp sets can be purchased using your Stampin’ Rewards, by placing a large enough individual order or hosting a party that orders over £150. We have a fab Stampin’ Rewards offer on at the moment, where you get extra rewards when you order is over £200.

I’ve used the stamp set to create this vase of flowers, these tiny stamps are easily missed in the set. I have to admit to focusing on the large butterfly stamp for a good while before I spotted this sets full potential. The vase is stamped in our new Archival Basic Grey ink – I love this ink! it’s just so crisp and clean (be warned though, it will stain your stamps!). The leaves are in Mint Macaron, with Melon Mambo flowers adding a pop of pink!
