Tuesday Tips! – Stamp ‘n’ Punch

So this weeks Tuesday Tip is something I think people struggle with – using your stamps and punches!

Stampin’ Up! © are producing more and more stamp sets that coordinate with punches (and framelets, but thats a different day!) and I know sometimes its hard to line up your images to get good punched images, so here are my tips:

  • line up your stamp the same way your punch is orientated
  • Stamp close to the edge of your paper
  • get your stamped images plenty of room for your punch
  • dont forget its only ink and paper (or cardstock) you can always try again!

Until next time…..

Inspired by….

Ok, so I have a confession to make, I watch A LOT of YouTube! A LOT! my excuse for this is that its my main source of inspiration. I love watching other people craft and create, I love watching craft room tours, and more than anything I love the mass of different ideas all in one place. I know a lot of people use pinterest for this, but for me its YouTube.

I subscribe to a countless number of crafters, creatives, organisers and others, giving me a diverse selection of ideas and projects, and this project is a ‘mash-up’ of YouTube and Stampin’ Up!

One of the people I watch a lot is Jennifer McGuire (her blog is AWESOME, go check it out!). Jennifer uses a number of different products, and I’ve made it a big of a mission to re-create some of her ideas (or CASE – Copy And Share Everything) using Stampin’ Up! product, so this is what this is……

Stampin' Up! festival of trees

This card uses the new Festival of Trees Stamp Set, available on the 28th of August. I love this stamp set, its so versitile, I can see ice-cream cones in its future! but for now I’ll stick with Christmas! It has a matching punch, making it super easy to ‘cut out’ the tree shapes, and it’s photopolymer so you can get these amazing two-step / layered stamping looks.

I love a couple of the techniques on this card, using Stampin’ Write Markers to colour the stamp (yes, it works on photopolyer stamps to!), using Old Olive and Early Expresso to colour the tree. I then used my Real Red Ink Pad to stamp the red dots (baubles / orniments / etc.). I stamped the stars in Crushed Curry on a scrap piece of Whisper White – I love that this stamp set also coordinates with the Star punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack!

stampin up festival of trees

But my favourite technique on this card is the embossed edge! I stamped the chevron stamp from Work of Art down the side of the card blank in Versamark Ink, and heat embossed it with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I then assembled the card, attaching the Whisper White piece with the trees stamped on, to the Early Expresso Card Blank. This looked a little bare to me, so, like Jennifer, I added a strip of colour, in this case a 1/4″ strip of Old Olive card stock.

The sentiment is also from the Festival of Trees Stamp set, stamped in Early Expresso. I added the stars using Glue Dots, and called this card finished!

The Seasonal Catalogue launches on the 28th August, drop me and email for a copy!

Sticky Note Holder

Here we are, a lovely little sticky note holder, a quick and easy project for a friday evening!

Sticky note holder stampin up

This project is super simple, using one piece of cardstock and a bit of DSP! I Love the new In Colours, Blackberry Bliss inparticular, and the MoonLight DSP Stack shows it off so well I had to use it too….

The trick is to measure your sticky notes!

I’ve attempted to explain in the video, however, I do like written instructions for fiddly projects like this….

You need to measure your notes, across the width and height (this will give you a square measurement, the front of your holder), and then measure the depth of the pad. Then, you need to take the height of the front and the height of the back (hopefully this is the same number!) and add them together, along with the depth. I’m hoping I’m making sense here ….. maybe time for a diagram.

sticky note measurements

So, to get the lenght of the cardstock you need: 3″ for the font, 3″ for the back, and 5/16″ for the depth. Now, if you can accurately cut to 5/16″ great, I cant, so I’ve cut mine to 3/8″. This gives me a piece of Cardstock 6 3/8″ by 3″.

The DSP is a 1/4″ shorter and narrower than the front of your sticky notes eg: 3×3″ notes, 2 3/4″x2 3/4″ DSP

The rest of the cover is decorated with petite petals cut from that gorgeous Blackberry Bliss, and a sentiment from A Dozen Thoughts, punched with the Modern Label Punch.

A Moonlight Thank You

Have I mentioned how much I love the new In Colours for 2014-2016! Have I! oh well, your going to hear it again! I love our new In Colours!

This time I thought I’d have a play with the MoonLight Designer Series Paper Stack. These paper stacks are so handy for a quick card. Instead of the usual 12×12″ size, these stacks (and there are two of them in the annual catalogue and another on its way in the seasonal catalogue – I cant wait!), these stacks are 6 1/2″ by 4 1/2″ (thats 11.4×16.5cm), just a little bigger than your standard size card! Awesome! The Moonlight stack features the new In Colours in their full and beautiful glory, using Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey and Lost Lagoon (the yummest colours!)Stampin Up! Moonlight thank you

I’ve been playing with Lost Lagoon a bit in the last few weeks, I had a couple of card orders that called for just such a colour, and this card uses my very last piece of Lost Lagoon Cardstock (must order more!), along with a piece of the Moonlight DSP, Work of Art stamp set, and the Something to Say stamp set and coordinating Itty Bitty Accents Punch pack! (LOVE!)

Stampin Up! Moonlight thank you

The Something to Say stamp set features14 sentiment stamps, many of which are designed to be used in pairs, along with 3 accent stamps: a heart, a flower, and a star. Here I’ve used the star, stamped in Lost Lagoon on Whisper White cardstock, and punched them out using the star punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack. The Thank You is also from the same stamp set.

A quick and easy card front, attached to a Lost Lagoon Card base with a few dimensionals

Easy!

Project Tray

You know, sometimes, when your working on a longer project (mass producing wedding invitations, Project Life by Stampin Up!, making items for craft fairs or fundraising events) you need somewhere to put all your items together, to stop them taking over!

Well, here is your solution! The Project Tray!

Stampin' Up! UK Project Tray

I use these all the time to hold various items and projects in the works, they hold items ready for making / photographing / selling / sending etc. I love them! and I thought I’d share the design with you.

It is super simple (as always, I cant do complicated!)

Here are the measurements:

IMPERIAL

Cardstock = 10″ x 8″

and score at 1″ on all sides

METRIC

Cardstock = 25.5cm x 20.5cm

Score at 2.5cm on all sides

See, told you it was simple!

Just for You!

Hello there!

I thought I try something a little different this week. Just like when I’m scrapbooking (something I havent shared much of with you yet – watch this space) I like to push myself and try something new. So, I had a look at a couple of challenges for this week and settled on the Around the World Stamping’ Up! challenge!

This time they have selected three colours to be used: Hello Honey, Blackberry Bliss and Calypso Coral.

Now, this is where I panicked! I don’t have Calypso Coral (yet!  still building my collection over here!). But then I realised something, I have all the Stampin’ Write Markers! So, actually I do have Calypso Coral – just not in a Stampin’ Pad! Silly! Have I mentioned the Stampin’ Write Markers to you guys yet? No? How have you escaped! I Love Them! The great thing about the markers is not only can you colour an image with them, write with them, draw with them, but you can Stamp with them to! Awesome!

Right, back to the Challenge. I looked at the colours, and I looked at my stamps, and I thoughts for about 3 days! and then suddenly, inspiration!

AW20 - challenge entry - Just For You

The Work of Art Stamp set has amazing background type images I love to use to ground other stamps on the card. I stamped the zig-zag / chevron image in Blackberry Bliss, before colouring between the lines with my Calypso Coral marker. I used Hello Honey to stamp the flowers, which I punched, and scrunched to give dimension, and then added the Just for You (this time colouring the stamp with that Calypso Coral marker). To finish I added a bit of bling with three jewels <3

Why you absolutely NEED the new Stampin’ Up! UK Catalogue!

Sorry this post is up a little later than usual (you can blame my UPS man!) but I was waiting on my order of shiny new things from the new Stampin’ Up! 2014-2015 catalogue

Stampin Up! - New things from the 2014-2015 catalogue

As usual all the new items in the Stampin’ Up! catalogue are gorgeous (and I want them all!) but I had to make a selection and so these are my picks for the next couple of months! Stampin Up! Itty Bitty Accents punch pack

Stampin’ Up! make the most awesome punches, and the small punch packs are always popular, this new offering is no exception! The Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack coordinates with the Something to Say Stamp Set. The stamped images (a heart, a star, and the flower) fit well in the punches and help you create your own custom embellishments, quickly! I love them!

But I think the most exciting thing for me are the new Designer Series Papers! I ordered two this time: Flashback and Sweet Taffy. As usual the papers use Stampin’ Up! colour collections and In Colours, coordinating with all the cardstock, inks and embellishments already in your stash!

Stampin’ Up! UK Everything Eleanor Card

So this card took me ages! and there is still something I’m not happy about, but its made now (and photographed, and now blogged) so it is what it is.

I am currently totally in love with Everything Eleanor, the swirl, the flowers, that fabulous journalling spot / ornate circle. So I wanted to create a multi-layered card with a number of the stamps from the set.Stampin Up! UK Stampinbyhannah Wish Big Everything EleanorThe card itself is a 5×5 inch square card. The swirl is stamped first, and in Smokey Slate, and I layered the frame over it in Daffodil Delight. The ornate circle, stamped on Whisper White in Temptin Turquoise, actually coordinated with the 2 1/2″ circle punch, but I preferred to fussy cut it.

The sentiment Wish Big, is another from A Dozen Thoughts. The get the two tone effect I used Stampin’ Write Markers to colour each word individually. Its then punched out using the 1″ circle punch, and backed by the 1 1/4″ scallop circle punched from Daffodil Delight cardstock. The 3 basic jewels were then added, before the card was assembled.

I really like the colour combination, and keep returning to it. Are there any colour combinations you use again and again?

Guys Wedding Favour boxes – Gum Holder

So, We get married next year and I am currently in the middle of making invitations, place cards, wedding favours and all the other bits of wedding stationary!

During a discussion with the other half he mentioned about wedding favours, and something for the guys (I don’t see whats wrong with chocolates, but still, packets of chewing gum it is!) Each guest will be getting a wedding favour, but I am making a selection as different people need different things: bridesmaids, groomsmen, children, will get different things.

Which brings me in a sort of round about way to this weeks project: gum holders….

This holds a triple pack of a famous brand of chewing gum.

The cardstock piece measures 3 3/4 by 7 1/2, or 10cm x 19.5cm (not what I said in the video!)

Scored on the long side at:

1, 1 1/2, 4 1/4 and 4 3/4 or 2.5, 4, 11, 12.5cm

Scored on the short side at:

1/2 and 3 1/4 or 1.5 and 8.5cm

Just because …… Who doesn’t love petals!

Our card for today uses the Petite Petals stamps and punch to give a fully coordinated look

The original card uses the new 2014-2016 In Colours: Blackberry Bliss, Lost Lagoon, and Hello Honey, along with Crumb Cake from the Neutrals collection, I changed it a little for the video, using Brights collection colours; Real Red, Bermuda Bay, and Daffodil Delight.

Stampin Up! Petite Petals in colours 2014

The card uses Whisper White cardstock, cut to 10 x5 inches, and scored at 5 inches, but you could totally adjust that to meet your own needs (and what you might have in your crafty stash)

Don’t forget if you like anything used on this card, you can check out my store at: stampinbyhannah.stampinup.net
