Fancy Fold Friday | Corner Fold Card

Fancy Fold Friday Video Tutorial Corner Fold Card featuring Number of Years from Stampin' Up! UK

Fancy Fold Friday

When I first made this card last year it took me ages to work out the cutting and scoring, I had found a tutorial from an awesome American fellow Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and just had to make this card, but the US don’t use A4 card stock, so I had to convert the measurements. It has taken me so long to revisit this style of card after the trauma of that day, but following my own instructions I had the card finished in a flash!

I love the fact that this card has its own level of dimension, although you could really burnish the fold lines to get the card to be flatter. I have also seen this style of fancy fold embossed with an embossing folder after the fold has been created which looks awesome! but I opted for tone on tone stamping today

This card features the Number of Years stamps and dies – which is currently available as a 15% bundle, but the bundle retired on the 31st May, although the stamps and dies will still be available they will cost more – grab them today for a bargain!

Have you spotted my colour combination inspiration today? Yes, this card is made in my blog colours; Soft Sky, Marina Mist and Melon Mambo!

Measurements:

Card Base – Marina Mist – Half A4, folded in half (14.8 x 21, scored on the long side at 10.5 cm)

Insert you card base into your Stampin’ Trimmer with the long side at the top, line up the left hand edge at 13 cm –  using the measurements printed on the cutting arm of the Stampin’ Trimmer cut from 2 cm down to 8 cm.

Turn your card base so the short edge is at the top, line up the left hand edge of your card stock at 8 cm, and cut again from 2cm to 8 cm – you should have created a corner cut in the middle of your card front.

Then fold the top right hand edge of the card front down, ensure that you don’t fold the centre square that will appear, burnish this score line well to ensure you card front sits flat.

Now, there is a video this week but I cannot promise a video tutorial every week (they are a whole heap of work!) but I will promised to ensure that each week comes with written instructions and measurements

#ImBringingBirthdaysBack

Stampin' Up! UK 2014-2016 in colours birthday card

Have you seen this hash-tag floating around on Social media recently? The lovely Shannon West (from the Stampin’ Up!® home office in Utah) has really started something. She noticed that we just don’t send birthday cards any more! Shocking really, but we have become so reliant on social media (I really don’t know if I would remember half of the birthdays I do without the power of Facebook!) and so sending a birthday card through the post has become a bit lost. You can read more about #Imbringingbirthdaysback on the Stampin’ Up! Website

Stampin' Up! UK Number of years birthday card

Saying that I will be delivering this birthday card by hand later on today (I am hoping that the birthday girl doesn’t see this on social media before then!). It is my wonderful mother-in-law’s birthday today – I won’t say how old she is, I think the card has done that for me! I usually do theme’d cards for my in-law’s as they have a passion for all things VW / 70’s is nice and easy to find something that fits them. However, today is a big day, and I fancied making something slightly more refined and lady-like for such a special occasion.

Stampin' Up! UK 2014-2016 in colours birthday card

I actually made this card a few weeks ago, based on a Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge sketch, but it was far too early to share it back then! I do love being part of the sketch challenge, and will be hopping with the girls again next weekend (excited already!)

The card features the Number of Years bundle and the (almost ready to retire) 2014-2016 In Colours; Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey, Lost Lagoon and Mossy Meadow. I have been loving playing with the number stamps and dies and I have my fingers crossed for a move into the annual catalogue this year! They just make lovely simple classy cards, or something much more complicated if that’s what your in to! Awesome, versatile products (one of the many great things about Stampin’ Up!)

Team Training Swap

Stampin' Up! UK Number of Years team training swap

This past Sunday I attended Michelle Last’s team training event in Northamptonshire. I LOVE attending Stampin’ Up! events, either corporate organised or events arranged by demonstrators, they are always wonderful and a great excuse to spend the day with lovely people, crafting and eating cake!

I set off from home at 6AM (yes, it felt very early!) and got on completely deserted roads travelling southbound. I did stop once, needed some breakfast! but arrived just after 09:30 in time for our 10AM start.

I have talked before about swaps, and I love swapping crafty ideas with other demonstrators. This time Michelle had asked us to make only 6 swaps, as we swapped in smaller groups to make it a little more manageable for everyone. I’m already planning my swaps for April’s On Stage Local event in Telford, and I have to admit, making 6 swaps was way way quicker than making 40+!

Stampin' Up! UK Number of Years team training swap

Its not very often I use black in my card making, but for me the whole point of attending these events is to push myself out of my comfort zone! So, here I am with a Black card base, Basic Grey embossed panel, and Mint Macaron stamped piece. I think the ‘Look who’s turning’ sentiment is great, and the ‘(again)’ just makes me giggle. My dad celebrates the anniversary of his 21st birthday every year (rather than admit quite how old he is!) and so I think this card might have to make a reappearance for his birthday this year!

Stampin' Up! UK Number of Years 21 again birthday card

I had great fun making these cards as my swap, but not as much fun as I had card making at the event!

Pinkies team training make and takes

One of the great things about attending training days with other demonstrators is getting the chance to use products you haven’t got round to buying yet! and this weekend I used an Aqua painter for the first time, what a difference – they are awesome! I’m not sure that I won’t still reach for my paint brush once in a while, but I am converted! Aqua painters are the way to go!

Stampin' Up! UK Paula Gorry

We were joined by the fabulous Paula Gorry from the Stampin’ Up! UK office at training this weekend, and she was kind enough to bring each and every person a swap card! It’s already on my wall of inspiration 🙂

How you all had a great weekend, I’m sorting out thank you cards and hostess gifts ready for posting tomorrow, probably should get back to it….

Pootlers Blog Hop – Spring Summer edition!

Stampin' Up! UK Aged birthday card Blog Hop

bog hop-001

Hello! and welcome to another Pootler’s Blog Hop! I know, two hops in one month! we’ve all been super busy creating awesome projects for you this week, and I know the girls have all worked super hard, so please remember to leave everyone some comment love on your tour around the hop! You can hop forwards or backwards along the chain by using the ‘Next’ and ‘Previous’ buttons a the bottom of this post! Happy hopping!

I’m sure I mentioned this in a blog post recently that January is FULL of birthdays in our family, and this past week we had a super special one. James’ Great Nanny turned 95!!!! She is just the most awesome lady, and I need to make a super awesome card to go along with whatever rubbish James has bought her this year (I don’t usually give James gift buying responsibilities for such important events, however, I have been super crazy busy this week and just completely ran out of time!)

Stampin' Up! UK Aged birthday card Blog Hop

For such a big birthday Numbers are important! and so I grabbed for the brand new and completely lovely ‘Number of Years’ stamp set and die bundle for this one. The numbers are large enough to be the focal point of the card, and they have a lovely watercoloured effect too (my favourite!). Now, my memory says that Nanny loves green (but it may well be playing tricks on me) so I selected Pear Pizzazz and Mossy Meadow, and Elegant Eggplant for a little contrast.

Stampin' Up! UK Number of years

In addition to the numbers the stamp set comes with some lovely sentiments, but I have kept it simple here with Happy Birthday. The die set also includes that great banner piece that coordinates with a couple of other stamp sets in the catalogue.

I did initially try to watcolour a background for this card, but something happened and it looked awful! So, I started again, with Shimmery White card stock and my collection of Stampin’ Sponges and added a mixture of Pear Pizzazz, Mossy Meadow and Elegant Eggplant ink to the left hand side, before stamping over it with some of the floral stamps from the same stamp set.

Stampin' Up! UK Pootles blog hop

I could probably have stopped at this point, however, I had just received a brand new boxes of stamping goodies including the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush in Gold, and HAD to use it! So I flicked some of the gorgeous gold glitter across the card, before adding dots of Crystal Effects and a scattering of Jewel Rhinestones! Probably overkill but I don’t care! I love it!
