Awesomely Melon Mambo…

Stampin' Up! UK awesomely artistic modern

Don’t you love it when you find a stamp set that you can use over and over again, and get a different look every time? Well, I do, and I have found on in Awesomely Artistic! You may remember my Telford Make and Take from May? that was more of a layered stamped look, I wanted to try and get a more of a clean modern look using the same stamp set.

Stampin' Up! UK awesomely artistic modern

I love this stamp set though, it has the potential to create a mountain of different looks, and all so pretty.

This time I’ve used a card base of Melon Mambo, with a strip of Night of Navy. The Stamping uses Night of Navy, Melon Mambo and Pear Pizzazz (my all time favourite green!) for some variation.

Oh, and that Friend label, well that coordinates with the Project Life Cards and Labels Framelits if you don’t want to fussy cut it (like I have here!)

Awesome!

Cardmaking 101 – Adhesives

Cardmaking class UK free

There are so many adhesives (that’s glue to you and I!) out there for card making, I thought I would select my favourites!

Snail – a great cute little tape runner. This tape runner contains 12m of permanent adhesive. Great for sticking cardstock to paper, and paper to paper, and wonderful for your basic card making needs, but not so great for 3D projects. Acid free, so great for adding those extra bits to your Project Life albums and scrapbook pages, and rubs away with a clean finger or you Adhesive Remover

Fast Fuse – The beefier brother! This super-sticky tape runner is super strong, great for 3D projects and comes with 20m of tape! Be warned though, watch the video below for usage instructions!

Tear & Tape Adhesive – I LOVE THIS STUFF!! Strong tape, with a tearable paper backing for all your cardmaking and papercraft needs! Comes with over 24m of tape, and is super sticky

Stampin’ Dimensionals – The only foam adhesive you will ever need! This hexagonal foam pieces add height and dimension to your cards and projects, with easy to remove backing paper and plenty on a sheet (300 per pack) I can’t life without these!

Mini Glue Dots – great little glue pieces for holding heavier embellishments, ribbons and punched pieces. These are pressure activated, so push your embellishment onto them on the roll, pull them off and push firmly onto you project to ensure a good stick!

Tombow Multipurpose Glue – The best liquid glue ever! Clear drying, strong hold glue, with two nozzles; a fine tip for detailed application and a broad tip when you need plenty of stick!

2-Way glue pen – Use when the glue is blue for a permanent stick, or leave to go clear for a temporary hold. I use this often for detailed gluing on die cuts, or for a temporary hold of a gift card!

Freshly Made Sketches 195 – Cardmaking 101 Process video

Stampin' Up! UK Freshly Made Sketches Crazy About You Video tutorial

Disclaimer: I got totally ahead of myself this week, and planned this video as the final part of my Cardmaking 101 series (my brain is complete mush right now, call it Wedding brain!) I am planning something else for next weeks Cardmaking 101 (probably another process video) but I am compiling a list of card making FAQ’s, do you have a burning card making question, let me know in the comments section below and I’ll answer it next Sunday!

I thought I would show you my card making process, using a sketch from Freshly Made Sketches. I have been really enjoying using sketches in card making recently, generally because it makes me make cards I wouldn’t normally make!

Stampin' Up! UK Freshly Made Sketches

This is the sketch for this week. I always try and modify the sketch a little, and not use it completely literally – for example here I have rotated the card by 90 degrees, but I might choose a different shape, or move the sentiment a little, just to convert the sketch in to something a little more my style.

Stampin' Up! UK Freshly Make Sketches Cardmaking 101 Crazy About You

I had loads of fun making this card, even though I made several mistakes (all in the video!). I swapped the circles for these scallop circle flowers from Crazy About You, and added the leaves in the background.

Don’t forget to ask your card making questions in the comments section below.

Birthday Blossoms

Stampin' Up! UK birthday blossoms

I am in love with this stamp set! I know there are a few videos and posts coming with this one – but that’s because I love it, and I only use what I love!

Stampin' Up! UK birthday blossoms

This card uses that lovely Ink Smooshing technique that I used a few weeks ago  (on this card!) I am planning a technique video on this one because I just love it! Its so super simple.

First stamp the sentiment in Versamark onto Watercolour Paper, and heat emboss with clear or white Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Grab your largest clear block (or tile, glass counter top etc.) and press your ink pad onto it! Spritz with water. Using a piece of Window Sheet, or the acetate panels that come with your photopolymer stamps, pick up the ink and water mixture and apply to your Watercolour Paper. Repeat until you have the effect desired. Here I picked up the ink and water mixture several times to get this dark colour.

stampin' Up! Uk delightful Dijon birthday blossoms

When you mix your ink and water, you are diluting the colour, so the final result will be lighter, so the more you add, the darker the final result.

You can see the difference in colour tone between the ink smooshing and the stamped flowers – its all the same ink pad!

July Free Online Workshop – You’re Sublime

Stampin' Up! UK You're Sublime lost lagoon cute easy card

Welcome to my Free Online Workshop for July 2015

This month I’m keeping things simple – life is insane right now, my wedding is now 3 weeks away! I am so not ready yet (so much left to do, STILL trying to find the time to make the orders of service and sort the seating plan!) But I didn’t want to miss a month of Online Workshops for you…

I chose to use the You’re Sublime stamp set this month. I love the images here, they are super cute (totally the word of this workshop – watch the video to understand what I mean!), and I think you can make a heap of different cards for all occasions with these.

Stampin' Up! UK You're Sublime online workshop

In order to keep things super simple we are making 3 cards this month, rather than boxes or bags, and there are 3 super simple cards to make along with me. Saying that there are 3 pretty distinct card making looks here. I am totally in love with the ‘follow your heart’ card – those polka dots just kill me!

Follow Your Heart

This card uses a Lost Lagoon card base with a Whisper White card layer. There are only 3 colour here; Lost Lagoon, Calypso Coral and Smoky Slate, and they are added to the Whisper White layer using Sponge Daubers to stamp the colour on! What a great technique. The super sweet caravan is fussy cut, and coloured in the same colours with my Blender Pens (yes, I LOVE them!!!)

Have a Snappy Day

This is a super super simple card. Once again using those great Sponge Daubers, but this time to colour a larger area – I’ll let you watch the workshop to see what I mean

Loads of Thanks

When looking for ideas for using this stamp set, I stumbled upon this set of cards on Pinterest, and was totally inspired.

I recently received the Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper stack, and I will admit I was scared – black with flowers! frightening! But as soon as I started to use it I fell in love! The patterns are small and dainty, but really sweet, they are the perfect size for card making – and its a 6 x 6 pad – awesome!

I have a great workshop for you next month – seeing as I’m away on honeymoon, I thought a Wedding theme may be appropriate! That workshop will go live on the 12th August 2015

What Have I Been Up To?

Well, I was on Annual Leave for the day job last week. I managed to get most of the jobs ticked off the Big Wedding To Do List including; making 70 Orders of Service, planning the tables, putting 2 bouquets together (I’m using artificial flowers!) and organising the Guest Book. Actually today I’m waiting for the post man to start delivering the metric tonne of sweeties we have ordered for our evening guests!
StampinByHannah video tutorials
This week though I’m back at work, although I’m off today (Wednesday) and Thursday – and am being very productive – more tutorials to film today! I filmed 16 videos last week, and by the end of it I was probably talking utter gibberish but like I have said before I don’t want to abandon you all while I’m away in August. Actually I have some really cool things coming for you while I’m off sunning myself 🙂

Coming soon….

I have been working on this one for a while, I love holding classes and workshops (check out my current timetable HERE!) but I can only do those with people who live locally to me. So, starting in August I will be providing ‘Stampin @ Home’ classes! Where you get to make 6 really cute cards in the comfort of your home, but I provide the supplies and a tutorial too!

Mt first Stampin’ @ Home class will go live in the first week of August, and class kits will ship the fist week in September. This first class features Watercolour Wings, and will cost £40 (plus postage and packing)

I can’t wait to share this with you! I am so excited!

Technique Tuesday|Layered Alphabet

Stampin' Up! UK Technique videos

I have a slightly different Technique Tuesday for you this week. I have been loving the Layered Letters Alphabet, I’ve used it for all sorts the projects this month – Catalogue bookmarks, my swatch book, and now my customer Thank You cards for July!

If you have placed an order this month, this card will be coming to you in the post at the end of the month! If you haven’t ordered yet…. you better get ordering to get one!

Stampin' Up! UK Layered Letters Alphabet

Aren’t they cute! Check out the video for some great tips about using this stamp set!

Top tips:

– Stamp your layering pieces first! get those rectangles and ovals onto your card – using different colours for each one looks awesome!

-Lay your letters out onto a clear block, to check your spelling! (particularly important if your dyslexic like me!)

-Position your letters onto the layering spots, stamp side down, and pick them all up in one go with a large clear block – this way you can stamp them together like one big stamp!

Do you have any alphabet stamp tips? Let me know in the comments section below!

Male Birthday Card

Stampin' Up! UK Male cards

I know I’m not the only one who’s heart sinks when it comes to Male Birthday cards. They are tricky, particularly when – like me – you’re drawn to flowers and pink!

So, last month it was James’ oldest brothers Birthday. I try really hard not to make themey cards – John likes running, but that doesn’t mean he must have a running themed birthday card, does it?!

Stampin' Up! UK Male cards

This is where Stampin’ Up! outdo themselves, Guy Greetings. What a fantastic guy themed stamp set! I’ve paired it here with Gorgeous Grunge for a really cool grungy look.

Stampin' Up! UK Guy Greetings Male Birthday

I actually got a ‘ooh, that’s cool!’ for this card! I know, I was surprised too! Most of my family are totally not bothered by a handmade anything, none of them understand the effort and thought, and very few actually appreciate what I have done – This does not stop me!

So, the card – a Cucumber Crush card base, layered with a piece of Typeset Designer Series paper and a matt of Very Vanilla – stamped with Gorgeous Grunge in Cucumber Crush and Sahara Sand. Cool, huh?

Cardmaking 101 – Types of Ink

Cardmaking class UK free

There are so many different inks out there! Dye, water based dye, pigment, craft, alcohol, ones that smooth out, ones that are best for blending, ones that react with water, the list goes on and on and on!

As a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, I only use Stampin’ Up! inks these days, but I have used others in the past, and do still reach for them on occasion. But I truly believe for a great all round ink, that’s great for beginner stampers, you cannot beat Stampin’ Up! inks!

Ok, so; there are several different inks in the catalogue. I’ll start with our Classic Inks. Available in Stampin’ pads, as refils, or in Stampin’ Write Markers, the classic ink is a great all round ink. It stamps wonderfully, often a little darker and splotchy at first but it smooths as it dries leaving a perfect crisp image every time! And if you think that is all Stampin’ Up! ink is good for, you are about to learn something! I use our Classic ink for water-colouring, adding some ink onto a clear acrylic block and adding water before using a paintbrush to colour my image. It’s also reactive to water, meaning that you can splatter water onto a project (before it’s completely dry works best) to bleach away some of the colour. It blends beautifully with sponge daubers or a blending tool. And it comes in 46 different colours!

Currently we don’t have a black Classic Ink (I am assured it will return, but it needed re-formulating to make it even better!), but we do have two great black options!

Memento Tuxedo Black is my go-to black ink, and I am so pleased Stampin’ Up! have continued to carry it. I have loved this ink for years! I can guarantee a clean crisp true black image with this ink, and it is safe to use with your Alcohol markers too. The Other option for Black ink is Stazon. Stazon is an alcohol based ink, great for stamping on slick surfaces like Window Sheets or tiles, but its also waterproof, and so great for stamping your images before you watercolour. One thing to be aware of with Stazon though is that it will stain your stamps, special Stazon cleaner is recommended, and I prefer to avoid using it at all with my photopolymer stamps (but sometimes it can’t be avoided!). Stazon is also available as a white ink, which comes with its refill as it is known to  dry out quickly.

White ink is also available as a pigment ink; Craft Stanpin’ Ink, is a permanent pigment ink. This is a great white ink, but it takes a while to dry. You can speed up the drying process with your heat tool, you add embossing powder to set it. Craft ink looks awesome on dark card stocks such as Night of Navy or Basic Black.

The final ink I’m going to talk about in Versamark. I love this ink! Versamark is my first choice for stamping and heat embossing, it is a clear sticky ink that holds your embossing powered to the card stock while you heat set it. It is the best! Versamark is also great for creating a tone-on-tone stamped look, or watermark effects.

What’s you favourite ink?
