Christmas in Bloom

Stampin' Up! UK Christmas Cards Cherry Cobbler

I love a good Christmas stamp set (of which we have many in the Autumn / Winter catalogue this year) but I always enjoy finding an alternative use for a non-Christmas themed set. A few weeks ago Garden in Bloom found its way into my craft room, and I don’t know whether it was just my excitement about Christmas but I saw Poinsettias amongst the flowers – maybe I’m just crackers!

Stampin' Up! UK Garden in Bloom Season of Cheer

Those flowers are stamped in Real Red, with the outline in Memento Black. I fussy cut the 3 flowers (or Poinsettias) it didn’t take all that long actually, they are quite simple shapes, plus the Stampin’ Up!® paper snips make fussy cutting super easy with their sharp to the tip blades and easy hold handles.

The strip of Designer Series Paper is taken from Season of Cheer, and the edge finished with a 0.5 cm strip of Gold Foil Paper.

Now, the only problem with using a non-Christmas themed stamp set for Christmas cards is the lack of a good sentiment. So I reached into my stash of Christmas stamp sets and chose this sentiment from Festive Fireplace.

Do you like finding alternative uses for Stamps in your collection too?

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge #2

Stampin' Up! UK Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge

Stampin' Up! Sketch Challenge

Thank you for joining us for another Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge! We’re so excited to be sharing this hop with you.  The products used are all available in the current Annual, or seasonal, Stampin’ Up!® Catalogues*.  Simply use the buttons at the bottom of the post to keep hopping!

Stampin' Up! UK Simply Sketched Challenge Week 2

I REALLY REALLY struggled with this sketch! My brain doesn’t copy well with wonky angles, and the angles on the sketch were too much for my little brain to handle. I actually made two cards this week, I might blog the first card I made later in the week. I changed it on Friday when I started writing this post, because I’m not sure if I like it!

Stampin' Up! UK Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge

I am much happier with this card. I changed the shapes on the sketch from rectangles to circles (and so got rid of the wonky angles!). The Designer Series Paper is from the English Garden Designer Series Paper Pack, and although there are some lovely floral patterns in this pack, I really wanted to keep the patterns simple on this card.

The card base is in Soft Suede, with the card stock circle in Old Olive. I have to admit this is not a usual colour palate of mine, but I am trying to push myself on a Saturday and make something a little out of my comfort zone. All three pieces (the two DSP, and one card stock) are paper pierced to add some extra detail, along with the trio of Candy Dots in Soft Suede

Stampin' Up! UK English Garden Birthday card

I needed to introduce a horizontal element onto this card (as suggested by the sketch) but didn’t want to cover the circles too much. I have also recently found a love for vellum, I have always liked putting vellum on cards but at the moment I am having to stop myself from putting Vellum on EVERYTHING! The Vellum is stamped with a sentiment from the Garden In Bloom stamp set – which coordinates with the Designer Series Paper – stamped in Early Espresso.

October Sketch Challenge – Card 3

Stampin' Up! Sketch Challenge Festival of Trees

I am loving this challenge! I don’t think I have even made more than one card with a sketch before, let alone using my own sketches!

Last week I came across a lovely lady called Linda’s blog, when she played along with my sketch challenge – check out here AWESOME card here! I am yet to purchase the stamp set Linda used on her card, but it totally inspired me to use the Festival of Trees stamp set, and to rotate my sketch too! funny how my brain works!

StampinByHannah October Sketch Challenge

The sketch is really simple, and I think I had been thinking small – so lets jump out of the box!

Stampin' Up! Sketch Challenge Festival of Trees

Ok, so that sketch has now been turned on its head. The three trees are stamped from Festival of Trees in Garden Green and Soft Sky, and the Designer Series Paper is Season of Cheer.

I’m really enjoying playing with this sketch, check back next Wednesday for yet another card using the same inspiration. I would LOVE to see what you have made with this sketch too, post me a link to your blog here or post a photo to my Facebook page.

Shaker Card using the To You and Yours Card Kit

Stampin' Up! UK Shaker Card To You and Yours

Yesterday we looked at the To You and Yours Shaker Card Kit (which I LOVE!) but I had HEAPS of bits and pieces left over after making the 18 cards.

So I have made a few bits and pieces with the left overs. I’m only sharing one of the card with you today, but sign up for my newsletter for more inspiration with this kit coming really soon

Stampin' Up! UK Shaker Card To You and Yours

Using the stamp set that goes with the kit as the shaker background I created my own shaker window using the Stampin’ Trimmer (although you could use dies). Those star sequins are left over from the kit, and I STILL have more!

The sentiment is also from the same stamp set, heat embossed in Gold (yum!)

To You and Yours Shaker Card Kit

Stampin' Up! To you and your shaker card kit top tips

I am loving the Project Kits in this years catalogues! They are all so simple to put together – so simple in fact that most of them can be put together in a couple of hours, surrounded by your friends – if you want to book a Party with me between the 4th and 10th of November you can select 2 FREE stamp sets from my basket of Stamping Goodies AND I can give you a hand to put your chosen kit together too! So, book your party today!

The To You and Yours Shaker Card Kit really stood out to me in the Autumn / Winter catalogue as a kit I needed to get home and put together before I could offer it to you as a class – Is it really as easy as Stampin’ Up!® make it look?

YES!

Stampin' Up! To you and your shaker card kit top tips

This kit gets you 18 cards (with envelopes) 6 of each of 3 designs. Stampin’ Up!® have even made a really handy video of how to put the kit together – along with both written and photographic instructions provided in the kit.

Stampin' Up! UK shaker card kit

The kit features gorgeous foiled card bases, and a lovely selection of different shaker shapes and elements to make your 18 cards. You could totally mix it up a bit and put the Glass Glitter in the Joy Bauble, or put the Joy sticker on the Star shape.

Stampin' Up! UK classes and parties Teesside

For me the highlight of this kit is the Dimensional Strips, they make creating your shaker shape so easy – just remember to butt the ends up close together on the cards where your using that Glass Glitter or you might find you have an empty shaker card and an envelope full of sparkles by the time they reach the recipient!

I found that adding some Crystal Effects liquid glue at the joints of the Dimensionals also helped (even if it was only peace of mind) to keep that Glass Glitter contained!

I thought I would make a quick video showing you just how easy it is to make these cards, but of course my camera had other ideas! hope you enjoy the Voiceover, and horrendous bow tying at the end! (there is a reason why the others don’t have their bit of bakers twine!)Stampin' Up! UK Shaker card video tutorial

Shaker Card Top Tips:

  • Start by applying your outline stickers, these are easier to apply than they look, and make the cards look super professional too!
  • Complete all the stamping before you start gluing your window sheets to your shaker frames
  • Use Tombow or Crystal Effects to add your Window Sheet – DO NOT be tempted to use your Fine-Tip Glue Pen, this glue is FAR too running and makes a major mess, check the video if you don’t believe me!
  • Assemble the Christmas Tree cards first, as suggested by Stampin’ Up!®, as you need to add 6 sequins to each tree, and to get that messy Glass Glitter out of the way!
  • Ensure your Dimensional Strips are butted tight up against each other, and add a liquid glue between to create a full seal (and allow to dry) before pouring your Glass Glitter onto the stamped tree – then line your shaker frame up over the top – otherwise your stamped tree might not match your shaker window!
  • Add the sentiment stickers last!
  • Have FUN!

Technique Tuesday | Watercolour Background

Stampin' Up! UK Watercolour background video tutorial

One of my favourite things to do is play with colour. I love pulling inks out of my Colour Caddy and seeing how they work together, look next to each other and compliment each other to make some fabulous projects! Adding water to out Stampin’ Up!® inks is also pretty high up there on my list of favourite techniques at the moment, either using the inks as watercolour or making a colourful mess – I just love it!

Stampin' Up! UK Watercolour background video tutorial

I created this card completely on video – I am trying to remember to turn on the camera when I am playing with inks and paper, you just never know if the card is going to turn into a masterpiece or a complete mess!

Colour is so important in card making, but Stampin’ Up!® make it so simple; with colour families of matching colours and coordinating products that all work together to help you create wonderful cards, and other items too.

So, before I waffle on forever about how much I LOVE Stampin’ Up!’s® colour palate, shall we watch the video tutorial?

See, creating this brightly coloured background is super simple; just four colour of ink and a heap of water. The colours used here are Daffodil Delight, Delightful Dijon, Pumpkin Pie, and Watermelon Wonder. I did need to add some extra Watermelon Wonder as it began is dry pink, but with some extra ink added we succeeded in creating a lovely orange/coral tone for this card.

The stamping here is from Best Thoughts, one of the lovely Hostess Exclusives for this year – place an order of £150 or more to purchase this set, or host a party. Speaking of which have you heard about my latest Party offering? Technique Tuesday | Faux In-lay Die Cutting

I have recently fallen head of heals in love with my Big Shot machine again. My Big Shot was one of those big ticket items I bought when I started crafting 5 years ago, and I have to admit it didn’t get the love and attention it deserved. However, since becoming a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator last year, the amount of use my Big Shot gets keeps increasing, and I am the first to admit that its starting to get tired through over use! I am in desperate need of new cutting plates since my current set are now sporting the ‘stained glass’ effect, and I am forever tightening the handle. I might have to buy it some Christmas presents this year!

Stampin' Up! UK Faux InLay Die Cutting Technique Tuesday

I really enjoy the In-lay die cutting technique, but trying to get all those pieces back into the paper can be a bit of a pain. I have recently tried a few different types of Faux In-Lay Die Cutting, using both the big shot AND punches!

There is a Big Shot add on that is a must for this one, the Premium Crease Pad. Designed to help form the creases when using Bigz Dies, the crease pad stops the die from cutting all the way through your card stock, leaving an embossed effect. This works on both detailed dies, like the Hello You Thinlits, and Butterflies Thinlit dies (love those!) as well as framelit dies, like the Flower Fayre dies that coordinated with the Flower Patch stamps

Stampin' Up! UK Faux In Lay Die cutting video tutorial

In-layed punching is super simple, and is really effective with stamped images, or Designer Series Paper. Keep your eyes on a blog for some more of this technique for sure!

Wonderland!

Stampin' Up! UK Wonderland card

Hello!

This is likely to be a shorter post than usual today, as I am writing this on Wednesday night before this goes live on Thursday! I have never been this dis-organised with my blog, ever! But since getting home from honeymoon the world and his dog wants to see me, trying to change my name is turning into an enormous job, and so little things like writing my blog have slipped – still I haven’t missed a regular post yet! Although, I didn’t do my week in review yesterday, but that’s really because I have nothing to say!Stampin' Up! UK Wonderland card class

and, seeing as I have been crazy busy, I also haven’t made a great deal either! so, today I thought I would share one of the cards that you can make at home as part of my Stampin@Home class for September.

I am in love with this stamp set, Wonderland, those trees are stunning. Here, paired with that beautiful vellum and some gentle inking, I love this card!

You can find out all about Stampin@Home this month by clicking the option at the top of the page

Seasons of Cheer!

Stampin' Up! Seasons of Cheer Designer Series Paper cardmaking

Hello!

welcome to a fresh new week here at StampinByHannah. I have to admit things are insane around here at the moment, I am struggling to get back into the swing of life after the Wedding and Honeymoon – 2 weeks away from home is too long I think 🙁 and so I am a little behind with my usual blog admin. I did however take a personal day last Friday, moved my craftroom to the sofa and make a stack of projects whilst catching up on the last few weeks of The Great British Bake off! Although, it did leave me wanting cake!

Stampin' Up! Seasons of Cheer Designer Series Paper cardmaking

I shared a sneaky peak of this card last week, totally outside of my usual style and comfort zone, however, that is my crafting aim at the moment – to step outside my comfort zone, to make cards I wouldn’t usually create, to share more of my creations, and to book some parties and classes outside of my home (if you want to host, please drop me an email!)

At this point, I have a confession to make, I LOVE patterned paper! I LOVE it! I have heaps and heaps of it, and I look at it, and I stroke it, and very rarely do I actually USE it! I find using Designer Series Paper on cards a real challenge. I posted recently in a Facebook group about this, and had a mountain of great suggestions and inspiration, and this card is born of that chat. I am a simple cardmaker, I’m a stamper, and one layer cards with minimal embellishment is my thing….well not anymore!

I am totally in love with this card, and that Designer Series Paper (its called Seasons of Cheer and its on page 29 of the Autumn / Winter catalogue!) and am loving playing with layers and matts, and ribbon and punches and loads of things that I had bought but never used because I was too scared to step out of my crafty bubble.

What do you struggle with when cardmaking?

(oh, that stamp, that’s new too, and it can be found in the Hello December 2015 Project Life by Stampin’ Up! stamp set!)

Washi Birthdays….

Stampin' Up! UK Cherry on Top Birthday Card

I love Washi Tape, but I have to say, I use it more in my planner than I do on crafty projects. It was James’ youngest brothers Birthday last week, and I wanted to create a simply, but fun card for him – so I grabbed my Cherry on Top Washi tape! I have mentioned before how much I love the colours in this suite of products; they are just so fun!

Stampin' Up! UK Cherry on Top Birthday Card

Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Watermelon Wonder, Cucumber Crush, and Soft Sky make for a wonderful happy birthday! The Designer Series Paper is also Cherry on Top (definitely my must have patterned paper at the moment!) with some stripes of Washi behind the sentiment piece.

‘It’s your birthday’ comes from Big News
