Pootlers Blog Hop – Spring Summer edition!

Stampin' Up! UK Aged birthday card Blog Hop

bog hop-001

Hello! and welcome to another Pootler’s Blog Hop! I know, two hops in one month! we’ve all been super busy creating awesome projects for you this week, and I know the girls have all worked super hard, so please remember to leave everyone some comment love on your tour around the hop! You can hop forwards or backwards along the chain by using the ‘Next’ and ‘Previous’ buttons a the bottom of this post! Happy hopping!

I’m sure I mentioned this in a blog post recently that January is FULL of birthdays in our family, and this past week we had a super special one. James’ Great Nanny turned 95!!!! She is just the most awesome lady, and I need to make a super awesome card to go along with whatever rubbish James has bought her this year (I don’t usually give James gift buying responsibilities for such important events, however, I have been super crazy busy this week and just completely ran out of time!)

Stampin' Up! UK Aged birthday card Blog Hop

For such a big birthday Numbers are important! and so I grabbed for the brand new and completely lovely ‘Number of Years’ stamp set and die bundle for this one. The numbers are large enough to be the focal point of the card, and they have a lovely watercoloured effect too (my favourite!). Now, my memory says that Nanny loves green (but it may well be playing tricks on me) so I selected Pear Pizzazz and Mossy Meadow, and Elegant Eggplant for a little contrast.

Stampin' Up! UK Number of years

In addition to the numbers the stamp set comes with some lovely sentiments, but I have kept it simple here with Happy Birthday. The die set also includes that great banner piece that coordinates with a couple of other stamp sets in the catalogue.

I did initially try to watcolour a background for this card, but something happened and it looked awful! So, I started again, with Shimmery White card stock and my collection of Stampin’ Sponges and added a mixture of Pear Pizzazz, Mossy Meadow and Elegant Eggplant ink to the left hand side, before stamping over it with some of the floral stamps from the same stamp set.

Stampin' Up! UK Pootles blog hop

I could probably have stopped at this point, however, I had just received a brand new boxes of stamping goodies including the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush in Gold, and HAD to use it! So I flicked some of the gorgeous gold glitter across the card, before adding dots of Crystal Effects and a scattering of Jewel Rhinestones! Probably overkill but I don’t care! I love it!

Balloon Celebration

Stampin' Up! Balloon Celebration

A slightly different card from me today, one without a sentiment (because I quite simply couldn’t decide what I wanted to say or where I wanted to put it!)

Stampin' Up! Balloon Celebration

I’ve been playing about with these balloons from Balloon Celebration for a couple of weeks, not coming up with anything I really loved. But the addition of the embossed background and dotted circle stamp on this one really won me over.

The background was a piece left over from my Brussels Swaps, I added the dotted circle stamp and some sponging in Soft Sky, before adding all the balloons. The balloons are stamped in Soft Sky and Rich Razzleberry, and punched out with the coordinating punch (got to love those bundles!).

I did think that the card was finished at this point, but the balloons appeared to just float in mid air, and looked a little odd – so I added some strings of Linen thread to ‘ground’ them a little. Strange to think that floating balloons looked so peculiar!

There’s always time for tea

Stampin' Up! UK A nice cuppa

Oh dear, I appear to have got my paper snips out again, time for some more fussy cutting!

Stampin' Up! UK A nice cuppa

I won this stamp set, A Nice Cuppa, at Stampin’ Up! On Stage Live back in November, and when it first landed in my hands, I really wasn’t so sure about it. But actually it’s had more use that I was expecting. The large ‘Theres always time for tea’ stamp fits very well on the front of a jotter note book, and the surrounding stamps are sweet. There is a matching die set available too (which I HAD to buy, thanks SU!) but I am struggling to find a project that requires a die cut knife and folk – but I know I’ll find one!

Stampin' Up! UK Theres always time for tea

I love the soft colours on this project; Blushing Bride, So Saffron and Wisteria Wonder. I’m not a super bright colour gal really, I much prefer pastel tones (unless it’s purple, then its a loud and bright as you like!), so this card is perfect.

Wedding Wishes ….

Stampin' Up! UK Rose Wonder Wedding Card

I’m LOVING playing with the new Wink of Stella Glitter Brushes in the Spring / Summer catalogue, and just HAD to combine the clear pen with the Rose Wonder stamps and die bundle!

Stampin' Up! UK Rose Wonder Wedding Card

This whole card is in Sahara sand. The rose and leaves are both die cut using the Rose Garden thinlits dies, and attached to the card front using my trusty 2-way glue pen. I’m still trying to decide how I prefer to attach these intricate dies, some days I use Tombow and others I seem to prefer the 2-way glue pen – so gutted that the adhesive sheets were retired last year, they would have been perfect!

The Wedding Wishes sentiment is taken from Rose Wonder, and is stamped in Crumb Cake – I wanted a colour of a similar tone but a little darker – and then the edges of the die cut are sponged in the same. I did originally just add the die cut straight onto the card, but it looked a little too plain, so I went back and added some loops of Silver Metallic thread, and a Vintage button tied with a bow of Linen thread.

Stampin' Up! UK Rose Wonder Wink of Stella

I’m hoping that this photo does some of the sparkle of the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush some justice. Each of the petals and leaves of this gorgeous die cut have been ‘coloured’ with super fine glitter, and it real life this card just sparkles – perfect for a wedding congratulations! – James bought me a new photography bulb for my birthday so I’m trying out new ways of taking my photos. I’m hoping that my photography skills are improving, but trying to capture the sparkle of this glitter is tough!

Peek-a-boo to someone new …

Stampin' Up! UK New baby card

I am a clean and simple card maker at heart, and this card just sings Clean and Simple; saying that it uses two stamp sets and 3 colours of ink, but I think it also shows off white space at its very best

Stampin' Up! UK New baby card

This card uses Flowering Fields, one of this years FREE Sale-a-bration choices! Sale-a-bration is awesome, each time you spend £45 you get to choose another stamp set, Designer Series Paper or Project Life card collection from the Sale-a-bration brochure for FREE! This year there are 11 options for you, with 3 leaving us early on the 15th February (although there are some more stamps coming to replace them!). I am loving this Flowering Fields stamp set, its great for quick and simple stamping, or you can layer and layer with it to create something just awesome.

Here I’ve selected one of the lovely floral stamps and stamped it in Rose Red. I’m not sure how well you can see, but there is a Pink Pirouette butterfly stamped just to the right of the flower head too.

Stampin' Up! UK Suite Sayings baby card

The sentiment is taken from Suite Sayings, a great sentiment stamp set from this years Spring / Summer catalogue, stamped here in Tip Top Taupe (a great neutral) to finish a super simple new baby card. Saying that, I think this card would be great for many occasions, just switch out the sentiment

Freshly Made Sketches #219

Stampin' Up! UK Freshly Made Sketches 219 Joy Fold Card

So the blog post I had planned for today had to be postponed at the last minute, I promise you will see the next Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge really soon – it just needs a little more cooking! The wonderful Sam Johnson has been working super hard on this challenge, and we cannot wait to show you!

In light of that, I thought I would show you a different sketch challenge today. I’m LOVING using sketches again at the moment, I mean, 3 sketches in a week! And I haven’t taken part in the Freshly Made Sketches challenge in a while.

FMS Final 219-001

This sketch screamed fancy fold to me, a Joy Fold Card to be precise. I really enjoyed making this card, and cutting into some more of the back stock of Designer Series Paper. I struggle to use Designer Series Paper on cards at the best of times, but when its black I find using it almost impossible. However, I don’t think this effort is too shabby! The Designer Series Paper here is called Pretty Petals, and I have a whole pack of it waiting for the next person to join my team of Stampin’ Friends!

Stampin' Up! UK Freshly Made Sketches 219 Joy Fold Card

A Joy Fold card is super simple to make too, as its more about the cutting of the card stock, than the folding.

Measurements:

  • Black card stock – 10.5 x 22.3 cm. Scored at 10.5 cm
  • Black Designer Series Paper – 14.3 x 10.5 cm
  • Mint Macaron card stock – 7.5 x 21 cm. Scored at 10.5 cm
  • Floral Designer Series Paper – 7 x 10 cm
  • Very Vanilla card stock – 6.5 x 9.5 cm

I’ve also used two different stamp sets on this card; Garden in Bloom and Perfect Pairings for the sentiment. Perfect Pairings is a great sentiment set available for FREE during Sale-a-bration.

Rose Wonder

Stampin' Up! UK Rose wonder birthday card

I’ve recently volunteered to make the birthday cards for the residents in the nursing home where I work. We have up to 69 residents at one time, so I probably should get cracking! There are also a heap of family birthdays in January, so you may well be seeing a whole heap of birthday cards on the blog in the coming weeks!

Stampin' Up! UK Rose Wonder

I am loving the Rose Wonder stamp and die bundle! The dies are so pretty and delicate, and the stamp set includes a host of really handy sentiments including birthday, wedding, and sympathy.

The Rose is totally the star of this card – to create this particular rose I die cut the flower from Lost Lagoon card stock and a matching piece of Designer Series Paper from the Going Places stack. I did the same with the leaves, using Mossy Meadow card stock and a similar piece of Designer Series Paper. I have been experimenting with adhesives to stick these dies down, I’m not normally a wet glue gal, however, I love using Tombow or the 2-way glue pen on these die cuts. I stuck the rose down to a piece of Very Vanilla card stock, and then inlaid the die cut pieces of the Designer Series Paper. This allowed me to fussy cut the rose and pop the whole thing up onto dimensionals. The leaves are stuck directly onto the Very Vanilla card front.

Stampin' Up! UK Rose wonder birthday card

The strange patterns on the card stock of the rose was a bit of a mistake, but by the time I had got the rose assembled I wasn’t about to start again! Once I had stuck all the pieces stuck I ran the Rose back through my Big Shot, this proved to be a mistake, as my rather battered big shot plates embossed their marks into my rose! oops!

The card was just a little plan, and so I added some Delightful Dijon ink onto the Very Vanilla card front with a sponge.

Watercolour Birthday

Stampin' Up! UK Garden in Bloom

As I’m sure you are aware, I love playing with watercolour, and this week has been no different. I’ve actually watercoloured so many cards this week that I’m having to hold onto them or you guys are going to get really sick of seeing watercolour cards!

Stampin' Up! UK Garden in Bloom

I’ve been working really hard over the past week to regain my crafty mojo. Does this happen to anyone else? where you are suddenly just not creative. at. all?! Where do you turn, I have to admit Pinterest it my fall back. I can spend hours (if I let myself) scrolling down pages and pages of card designs. I actually can’t remember what inspired this card, other than something similar on Pinterest (which I forgot to Pin and so cannot find!)

Stampin' Up! UK Watercolour with stamping

The flowers are taken from Garden in Bloom, stamped and heat embossed onto Watercolour Paper. The watercolour here is super simple, I grabbed two small paint brushes and a dish of water. One of the brushes is water only, and I use this to ‘paint’ the water onto the image. Then using the other brush to drop the ink into the water, magic happens as it dries I promise. The colours here are Pacific Point, Mossy Meadow and Crushed Curry.

I wanted a birthday card, and although Garden in Bloom is lovely, it doesn’t come with a birthday sentiment, so I reached back into my stamp collection and found this sentiment from Birthday Blossoms.

So pretty

Dear Friend…

Stampin' Up! UK Circle Card

I’m live blogging again today, before I spend a large part of the rest of my day scheduling posts for the next few weeks! I’m slowly getting back on schedule after a crazy Christmas, I’m sure everyone else is still in a period of adjustment after the New Year too (please say I’m not the only one!)

This past weekend I hosted my first event of 2016, we had a great time stamping and chatting – you can see what we made by subscribing to my Weekly Newsletter.

Stampin' Up! Uk Birthday Bouquet Dear Friend

I was totally inspired by a card I found on Pinterest for this one. I couldn’t wait to cut into this gorgeous Designer Series Paper here either, this is the brand new Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper; featuring a lovely mix of florals and small patterns, and some gorgeous balloons that I haven’t been able to cut yet!

Stampin' Up! UK Circle Card

Did you see that bow?! I know, I am totally shocked too! I love this ribbon, even someone as bow challenged as me can manage to tie this stuff, and it is SO pretty!

The Dear Friend, is taken from the Birthday Blooms stamp set (another new stamp set that I can’t put down!), stamped in Pool Party to coordinate with that ribbon and the lovely Designer Series Paper.

Sketch Challenge| Global Design Project 018

Stampin' Up! UK Just Saying Hello

Hello!

Sorry for my slightly late post for today, been trying to catch up on photographing my projects this morning, and time sort of ran away from me a little bit! I’ve actually been quite prolific this weekend, and have made a stack of cards – which makes me feel so much better as I was beginning to think that my crafting mojo had up and left! but a stressful weekend of work On Call has led me back to my crafty stress relief!

Anyway, I thought I would take a sketch challenge today, I’ve been following the Global Design Project for a little while, but actually jumping in and creating anything for one of the challenges has been somewhat of a challenge in itself! Well, this week I’m on holiday from my day job (thank goodness!) and so am taking time to craft and blog. So this morning I was having a little browse through Facebook and was reminded of this challenge by the lovely Michelle Last.

So here is my take on this weeks Global Design Project Sketch Challenge!

Global Design Project sketch challenge 018

I love a good sketch challenge! speaking of which the Simple Sketched Saturday Challenge Blog Hop is back this week! Yay! I have been sitting on my project for this weekend for a while, I can’t wait to share! anyway, getting back to THIS sketch challenge…..

Stampin' Up! UK Global Design Project Sketch Challenge

I’m still trying super hard to cut into my packs of Designer Series Paper. I am determined not to have heaps of the stuff left at the end of the this Annual catalogue (unlike last year!) and so am trying to use papers more on cards. Now, I know I have sinned here; layering two patterns one on top of the other without card stock between, but somehow I think it works. I love this paper in particular; its the English Garden Designer Series Paper from the annual catalogue, it is gorgeous! I’m a sucker for colour and at the moment I am totally in love with all things Rose Red.

Stampin' Up! UK Just Saying Hello

The ‘Hello’ is taken from the Hello Stamp Set (in this years Sale-a-bration offering) along with that cute smiley face. Hello is stamped in Rose Red and fussy cut with my paper snips. I am not a world expert at fussy cutting, but I give it my best, and I’m fairly pleased with this effort. The smiley face and ‘Just Sayin” (from Crazy About You) are both stamped in Marina Mist, as is the flower stamp in the background.

I loved creating this card, and will certainly be taking the Global Design Project challenge again!
