Global Design Project #099 | Wedding/Anniversary

Guys Wedding Anniversary Card using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

Well, hello there….. I’m finally blogging on my new site! So, hello, nice to see you…. and to celebrate this special occasion I have this weeks entry into the Global Design Project!

Actually…. its more of a double celebration, seeing as it is my 2nd Wedding Anniversary today! Yay…. I managed 24 months without James wanting (or trying) to kill me! I am taking this as a massive success…. and I do hope it continues a little longer!

As a card maker, and seeing as this weeks GDP challenge was totally meant to spur me into action, I thought I should make a card for James to celebrate… I will update you later as to whether he has bought (or made) me one!

Global Design Project Wedding Anniversary Congratulations card for men using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

Now… a anniversary card for a guy, is a little tricky, but I kept it neutral and I think it works! The Background is stamped using the Sheet Music Stamp set and Smoky Slate ink. To create the effect I didnt ink the whole stamp… but dabbed my ink pad down a couple of times in the middle. Although they are hard to see, I then embossed the heart die from the Eclectic Layers Thinlits into the card stock. I should mention at this point that I used Thick Whisper White rather than standard weight to ensure it embossed cleanly.

Guys Wedding Anniversary Card using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

The card was then completed with a diamond die cut from Silver Glimmer Paper, Leaves die cut from Vellum and embossed with the Hexagon 3D Embossing Folder, loops of Silver Metallic Thread, that cute sentiment (from Oh So Eclectic!) and a trio of Metallic Enamel Shapes.

Your wondering about those flowers… they are lovely aren’t they! Yes, they are fake… think they cost a total of £2.50 off ebay…. and they were (are) my wedding bouquet. I LOVE them, and the sit in a vase in my lounge normally…. but this photo needed some colour, and I thought they were fitting!

What do you think of the new blog look? I am in LOVE!

Techniques Series | How to use a Die as a Mask

I Like You Friends Thank You Card using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

Stamping Techniques Series

I have one card, two ways for you today! I shared a card yesterday using the Oh So Eclectic Bundle…. and I have another for you today! The dies in this bundle are special… some of them cut, some emboss, some cut the image out of the card stock, and some … leave the image in! and it is these dies that we are playing with today.

I created my own mask using the diamond pattern die in this set….

Creating a mask with these dies is super easy… I simply run them through my Big Shot with piece of Window Sheet, but you could use Vellum… I use Window Sheet because that way I can save my mask and use it again! Running Window Sheet through the Big Shot can be a little frightening, as it makes a whole series of strange whaling and cracking noises…. but its OK, it doesn’t damage the Window Sheet or, more importantly, the Big Shot!

Oh So Eclectic Card Masking Video Tutorial from Stampin' Up!

This first card uses the mask with the fabulous New Embossing Paste! I am LOVING playing with this stuff, and I have a couple of videos coming soon all about it. I have coloured the paste here using Night of Navy ink…. but I really needed to add some more ink to get that true Night of Navy colour. Still, it’s not a disaster, just a happy accident! and a learning experience… because next time I know I need to add more!

The second card, made in the video, I ink blended Night of Navy through the Mask. This was I guaranteed myself a true Night of Navy colour! but, I sacrificed that dimension that the Embossing Paste brings.

I Like You Friends Thank You Card using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

This card is finished with a series of die cuts using the stamps and dies in the Oh So Eclectic bundle….

What is your favourite bundle in this years Stampin’ Up! catalogue?

Watercolour Block Stamping with Oh So Eclectic

Oh So Eclectic Card using Stampin' Up! products

Today’s card uses one of my favourite bundles from the Annual Catalogue. Did you know that when you see items bundled together in Stampin’ Up!’s catalogues you save 10%! Awesome… This particular bundle includes the gorgeous Oh So Eclectic Stamp set and its coordinating Eclectic Layers thinlits.

Watercolour Block Stamping technique using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

There is of course a technique at work here…. and as a bit of a sucker for all things watercolour, I couldn’t pass an opportunity to get messy with ink and card stock! The panel on this card is coloured using the Watercolour Block Stamping technique. This is so fun! Here I have selected a ‘C’ sized clear block, and coloured the surface with Stampin’ Write markers in Berry Burst, Fresh Fig and Lemon Lime Twist. Then I spritzed LOTS of water onto it so the ink formed larger droplets, and became almost to the point of running off the block! Here is where things could go a little wrong, as it takes a quick hand to turn the block over and place it onto a sheet of Watercolour Paper….. and then you need patience, because you need to leave it! Let the ink soak into the paper, the longer you leave it, the more intense the colour.

Oh So Eclectic Card using Stampin' Up! products

I left my Watercolour Block while I stamped the rest of the card…. The sentiment is heat embossed in White onto Basic Black card stock and then cut apart… and that flower is die cut from Lemon Lime Twist using the dies in the bundle.

Once the watercolour had been left to soak for about 10 minutes, I removed the block and finished the drying process with my heat tool. Then I trimmed the panel to leave a boarder around the watercolour.

The card is finished with some dots of glitter and a couple of loops of Gold Metallic Thread.

TGIF #118 | Embossed Resist

TGIF Challenge Emboss Resist Thank You card using Bunch of Blossoms from Stampin' Up!

Hello!

I know you weren’t expecting a blog post on a Sunday afternoon…. but I am aiming to add weekend posts back into my blog in the very near future… and when I saw this weeks TGIF Challenge I couldn’t pass it up!

Regular visitors to my little corner of the internet will be well aware of my love for techniques, and this week TGIF challenge is one of my favourites; Embossed Resist

TGIF Challenge Emboss Resist Thank You card using Bunch of Blossoms from Stampin' Up!

The Embossed Resist technique is really simple. Stamp your image (in this case, its leaves) in Versamark ink and emboss with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Then add ink over the top… the area with the embossing powder resists the ink and stays white. Simple. I used the leaves from Bunch of Blossoms in the background, and added Old Olive ink with a sponge over the top. For some added texture I varied my usual technique of swirling ink, adding some stippled areas too.

Thank You card using Bunch of Blossoms from Stampin' Up!

The flower is also from Bunch of Blossoms and is stamped in Flirty Flamingo and Smoky Slate, then each petal is individually punched out using the Blossom Builder Punch. I don’t make this flower very often, its a bit fiddly if truth be told… but I fancied something a bit special! That and while I’ve been clearing my craftroom as part of preparations for The Big Move! I found my glue gun…. which is another must for this particular flower!

The card is finished with a trio of glitter Enamel Dots, a sentiment and a few dots of Fine Tip Glue

What is you favourite technique for card making right now?

Simply Sketched Saturday | Friend Card

Simply Sketched Saturday Blog Hop Lovely Inside and Out Friend Card using Stampin' Up! products

Stampin' Up! Sketch Challenge

Hello! Oh its that time again…. time for a blog hop! I am loving that the past couple of months we have set Colour challenges rather than sketches (although I do LOVE a sketch) I love seeing what the girls do with colours!

No automatic alt text available.

This month Sam has given us Lemon Lime Twist, Melon Mambo and Peekaboo Peach! Once I had got over the neon-ness of the colour combo I set about making this….

Simply Sketched Saturday Blog Hop Lovely Inside and Out Friend Card using Stampin' Up! products

I needed to neutralise those bright colours…. and had just got a pack of the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper. The card base is Crumb Cake, with a layer of Whisper White and then a piece of that stunning Wood paper. The stamp set is Lovely inside and out, I have stamped the images onto vellum and then heat set the ink using a layer of Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder. The sentiment is stamped in Lemon Lime Twist and die cut using the oval Stitched Shapes framelit.

I hope you like my card today…. don’t forget to subscribe to my email newsletter for regular cards and news from me!

Techniques Series | Masking with Glue

Techniques series masking video tutorial masking with glue floral card using Birthday Blossoms from Stampin' Up

Stamping Techniques Series

I love using techniques in my card making, and one of my favourites in Masking. But there are so many different ways to mask, so over the next few weeks I thought we would explore them together. This week we are ‘Masking with glue’ and while this isn’t my original idea (I found it a few years ago on Ruth Trice’s blog) this version of masking is one I do often, and always gets a ‘ooooh, how did you do that reaction!’

Techniques series masking video tutorial masking with glue floral card using Birthday Blossoms from Stampin' Up!

This technique is really easy, but needs some time….1. because applying the glue can take a while, and 2. because it needs a good few hours to dry!

So, how do you mask with glue!

Ok, so the real trick is the Stampin’ Up! Fine Tip Glue Pen! This great glue is nice and runny, drys clear and comes with a needle point applicator.

Tips and Tricks:

  1. Stamp your image in Archival ink (either Basic Black or Basic Grey) and give it a minute to dry
  2. Use the Fine Tip Glue pen to ‘colour’ the image with glue…. once the stamped image is nicely covered, leave it to dry (I usually leave it overnight to make sure it is properly dry)
  3. Then you can stamp over it, or blend ink over the glue and the stamped area will remain white
  4. Clean the masked area with a dry paper towel to ensure that the white really pops!

Techniques series masking video tutorial masking with glue floral card using Birthday Blossoms from Stampin' Up

The rest of the card is finished with a sentiment die cut with the Layered Circles and some fussy cut leaves stamped in Emerald Envy. The final part of this card is the embossed panel. I am having heaps of fun with this embossing folder at the moment, its called Seaside… and while it is great for sea themed cards, its just as pretty for other cards too!

I Like You Oh So Eclectic

Fun floral card using the Oh So Eclectic Bundle from Stampin' Up! UK

As I am sure you know, I love a detailed card… whilst keeping things clean and simple (give me more white space! lol). This card fits that detailed, clean and simple bracket quite well I think!

Fun floral card using the Oh So Eclectic Bundle from Stampin' Up! UK

This bundle is one of my favourites from the latest Stampin’ Up! catalogue (yes, they are all my favourite…. I love them all!). It includes a fun stamp set featuring some really cool stylised floral images, and a die set that cuts and embosses! Here I have stamped the detailed floral stamp across a piece of Whisper White in Night of Navy, and the leaves and that watercolour effect flower in Old Olive and Berry Burst

Fun floral card using the Oh So Eclectic Bundle from Stampin' Up! UK

The background uses the Layered Leaves 3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing folder, embossed into Old Olive card stock. These 3D embossing folders give a really detailed emboss, but need a slight alteration to your usual ’embossing sandwich’ as you only need ONE of your cutting plates. So, using the Stampin’ Up! Big Shot you will need the Big Shot Platform, the embossing folder and card stock, and then just one of your cutting pads. To get a clean emboss you can spritz your card stock with water first, but I have to say I don’t need to for this embossing folder!

The card is finished with a piece of the Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper and a bow of Night of Navy Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon

Delightful Daisy Birthday Card

Happy Birthday Card using Delightlful Daisy and Happy Birthday Thinlit from Stampin' Up!

I have been feeling really rubbish recently, and have spend a LOT of time scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram in an attempt to stay crafty…. and in the process came across THIS card from Teneale Williams

Happy Birthday Card using Delightlful Daisy and Happy Birthday Thinlit from Stampin' Up!

This stylish card uses the pretty Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper and the Happy Birthday Thinlit die. The card base is Sahara Sand, and I layered the Daisy Paper onto a piece of Whisper White Card stock to add some stability to it as it is popped up on Dimensionals. The Happy Birthday is die cut 3 times, twice in Daffodil Delight and once in Whisper White, all layered together for some more dimension! I loved Teneale’s uses of Vellum, it just adds a special soft something to this card. And the whole thing is finished with a linen thread bow!

Berry Burst Birthday

Bright and fun birthday card using Happy Birthday Gorgeous from Stampin' Up!

Try saying that 3 times fast! I had heaps of fun one afternoon a few weekends ago making a bunch of birthday cards using the Happy Birthday gorgeous bundle. This fab bundle comes with a fun stamp set and a Happy Birthday die. I love a simple card…. and cards can be super simple with this fun die.

Bright and fun birthday card using Happy Birthday Gorgeous from Stampin' Up!

I love creating a stamped wreath, and this card uses this fun technique…. its super easy to create, particularly with this stamp set which includes curved stamps! To create the wreath; draw a circle in pencil on your card stock, I use one of the largest circle dies from the Layering Circle Dies. Use this circle as a guide to stamp your wreath. I tend to start at the top, and then stamp in order around the circle.

This stamp set also features another one of my favourite stamping techniques…. two step stamping, to create these fun flowers.

I’m sure you are thinking, “Yes Hannah, that die is lovely, but sticking it down is going to be a pain” well, no actually, if you use the new Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet its super easy! (quick tip video coming soon!)
