Inspire.Create.Challenge 048 Sailing Home Birthday

Hey folks! It’s time for another Inspire.Create.Challenge, and this time we have a very handy theme…. Birthdays! We all need birthday cards, and hopefully it’s the card you make/send most often.

Male birthday card using Sailing Home from Stampin' Up! with StampinByHannah

I made this card for one of my brother’s-in-law at the end of June using the Sailing Home stamp set and coordinating Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper, and all in Night of Navy and White.

One of my top tips for making male birthday cards is to keep things simple, and will often stick to a couple of colours, or use a lot of white space.

How to make a simple birthday card for a man using the Come Sail Away suite from Stampin' Up! with StampinByHannah

One of the things I really LOVE about Stampin’ Up! is the coordination. You know, that the ink, card stock and Designer Series Paper are all the same colour, the white’s match and the stamps fit perfectly into basic shape dies. There are a few die sets at work here; the Layering Square and Stitched Shapes work together to make lovely layers on your cards, and I LOVE that we now have a heap of word dies to create interesting looking sentiments.

Create a fun Birthday card for that special guy using Come Sail Away from Stampin' Up!

The Birthday is die cut using the Well Written dies. I actually die cut this 3 times from Night of Navy card stock and stacked them to get this fun dimensional effect.

There are more Birthday card’s over on the Inspire.Create.Challenge blog this week, do pop over and check them out, create your own birthday creation and add it to our gallery. We can’t wait to see them!

Home to Roost Birthday Card

So, today I thought I would share my final Sale-a-bration make of 2019… and James’ birthday card!

Home to Roost Birthday Card for Sale-a-bration using Stampin' Up! products with StampinByHannah

Home to Roost is available for FREE when you spend £45 before Sunday night! I cannot believe that Sale-a-bration is so nearly over… however, that does mean that we are closer to the start of the new Annual Catalogue and something very exciting that launches on Monday!

Bright and fun guys birthday card using Home to Roost from Stampin' Up! with StampinByHannah

My top tip for guys cards is to keep things fairly simple. Here I stamped the Rooster onto Watercolour paper using Staz-on. I did use my Stamparatus for this to ensure a really deep, crisp, black image onto the bumpy paper.

Then, to add some texture I added some dots of Fine Tip Glue and let it dry really really well before watercolouring the piece in Crushed Curry, Blueberry Bushel and Real Red inks.

The other texture on the card is the embossed front using the hexagons Dynamic Embossing Folder, and then adding the watercoloured panel with dimentionals to a piece of Crushed Curry Card stock.

How to decorate the inside of a card using Home to Roost from Stampin' Up! with StampinByHannah

I couldn’t not decorate the inside of this card (James always requests something special on the inside when I’m making a card for him to send!) and so I added some stamping and a strip of Crushed Curry card stock to finish.

Check out the the Sale-a-bration deals before they end on Sunday

Quick and easy Birthday Card with Itty Bitty Birthdays!

I needed a manly birthday card this week for my Brother. He is a nightmare when it comes to birthdays (or any other present buying occasion!) and often asks for things like socks! So this year, he got socks… because my brain does not have the energy or the space to think of something else! Nor does it have the time to design a fabulous card for him… I know it’s bad, but really when it comes to guys cards, I’m of the opinion that simple is better anyway.

Musical Birthday card for guys using Itty Bitty Birthdays from Stampin' Up! with StampinByHannah

Sam is really into music, so using the Sheet Music background stamp is always a pretty safe jumping off point for his card. However, I apparently didn’t clean it very well they last time I used it, because my Crumb Cake image has patches of red! However, I really quite like the look… so I rolled with it!

Birthday card using the Sheet Music Background Stamp from Stampin' Up! and Itty Bitty Birthdays with StampinByHannah

I try to make a big thing of the sentiment on guys birthday cards, particularly when they are simple like this one. One of my favourite sentiment stamp sets at the moment is Itty Bitty Birthdays; it has a selection of great sentiments for Birthdays and celebrations, and I particularly like this bold Happy Birthday. Here it’s stamped in Early Espresso and punched using the Classic Label Punch.

To add a little something to the sentiment I also added Classic Labels in Pacific Point and Call Me Clover to finish the card.

Nailed It in Bermuda Bay…

Mans card with tools using the Nailed It Bundle from Stampin' Up! to make an I'm Sorry Card

Tuesday, now, I normally share my Global Design Project entry for the week on a Tuesday, and I had intended to do that this week…. except my nice early finish from work turned into getting home at 7PM and so getting a blog post up for today was more important! however, I intend to make and share my entry on Thursday….

Manly I'm Sorry card using Nailed it from Stampin' Up! with the Urban Underground Designer Series Paper and Hexagon Embossing Folder

I am loving cutting tools using the Nailed It bundle at the moment… and don’t get me started on that paper <3 I just cannot get enough! Which is good really because with my crazy busy month I am a little behind on designing the cards for this month’s Online Card Class! I will share some sneaky peaks with you on Social Media over the weekend.

You can find out what is included in my March Online Card Class HERE, and I would LOVE to see you in class this month. Don’t forget that you class kit also includes a FREE Sale-a-bration item in addition to you fabulous other crafty goodies, exclusive videos and written instructions!

Mans card with tools using the Nailed It Bundle from Stampin' Up! to make an I'm Sorry Card

This card is put together in a similar way to the one I made a few weeks ago for Make It Monday (there’s a video for that one too!). The tools are stamped in Basic Grey onto Very Vanilla (to match the DSP!) and then coloured using the Basic Grey and Bermuda Bay watercolour pencils, blended with a blender pen to smooth out the colour. Then the card is finished with a few threads from a length of Bermuda Bay Thick Bakers Twine and some loops of Silver Metallic Thread.

Make It Monday | Guys Birthday Card using the Nailed It Bundle

Make It Monday Male Birthday Card using Nailed It From Stampin' Up! UK

Make It Monday

Welcome back to Make It Monday! I LOVE making these videos, I hope you enjoy watching them too. This week I thought I would share a male birthday card I made recently for my Father-In-Law.

Make It Monday Male Birthday Card using Nailed It From Stampin' Up! UK

Male birthday cards can be tricky, especially when you’re like me and most of your stamp collection seams to be flowers or butterflies! I prefer a ‘pretty’ style, and so guy cards can be a challenge, however, Stampin’ Up! have made guy cards super easy with the Nailed It bundle. Not only does it include a selection of tool (no I cannot name them, my husband will be very disappointed in me!) but handy extras like screws, and a great hexagon. I LOVE Stampin’ Up! bundles, they come with the stamp and the coordinating die set, and when you buy the bundle (rather than the separate items) you save 10% ! Win Win!

The Nailed It bundle also coordinates with some other great items in the Spring Summer catalogue; I am having heaps of fun with the Hexagon Dynamic Embossing folder, and I might have to grab a second pack of the Urban Underground Designer Series Paper! I have recently received a pack of the Urban Underground embellishments too, and I cannot wait to get those on a card!

Question of the Day: What is your favourite method of tackling a Men’s card?

I try and find a theme; tools, cars, or failing that a cool embossing folder and a big sentiment! anything to get back to making pretty cards with flowers and butterflies!

Global Design Project 068 | Nailed It!

Mans Card using Nailed It by Stampin' Up! UK for the Global Design Project 068

Well Hello there! It has been so long since I took part in the Global Design Project. I LOVE doing this challenge every week, but the back end of last year was so crazy I haven’t had chance to join in for ages! However, that is going to change, one of my many New Years Resolutions this year is to take part in the GDP each week (made much easier by the fact that I don’t often have to work a Monday!)

gdp068_jess_williams

This weeks challenge is to CASE the designer. I love this card by Jess Williams, and chose to use both the layout and the colour combination for my card.

Mans Card using Nailed It by Stampin' Up! UK for the Global Design Project 068

I chose to use the awesome new stamp set, Nailed It, for this card. Guy cards are always tricky, but there are some really great options for guys in the new Spring Summer catalogue (which launches tomorrow!! So excited!). The hammers are both coloured using the great new Watercolour Pencils, LOVE them! I have been trying them out on a heap of different types of card stock and so far haven’t come across one that they don’t work on!

Global Design Project Guys Card using Nailed It from Stampin' Up! UK

I have to say too I had such a drama getting this post up today. I got called into work on Sunday night to cover the night shift and so making this card was an interestingly sleepy experience yesterday afternoon, but then to make it even worse when I went to photograph it I discovered that my lighting set up has totally died! I have to use artificial lights to photograph my projects at this time of year, and so once I have finished writing up this post I’m off to find another lamp holder for my photography light bulb! I have to thank my lovely husband who stood holding my lights to allow me to take the photos for today’s post, and I really hope that I don’t have to call on his lamp holding services again too soon!

Thanks so much for checking out my little blog today, and I hope that you check back tomorrow for the launch of the Spring Summer catalogue and the start of Sale-a-bration!

Happy Birthday Husband

Stampin' Up! UK Mans birthday card Guy Greetings

It was James’ birthday on Good Friday, but what with the end of Sale-a-bration rearing its head I didn’t get around to posting the card until now.

James is always very supportive of my card making, but I think he gets a little nervous when it comes time for me to make a card for him. James is a manly sort of bloky sort of fellow, he doesn’t do flowers or pink or ribbon or anything remotely feminine at all (I am solely responsible for anything remotely ‘homely’ in our house, he would have a sofa and a fridge and a TV and call it home!) so cards aren’t really something he would spend time or effort in choosing, let along making for anyone!

Stampin' Up! UK Mans birthday card Guy Greetings

I love creating super simple cards for James. He has started to make cards for me (just because he knows I like a handmade card) and always goes to town on ink blending and punches, he actually bought his own card blanks because he was too scared to touch my card stock (rightly so!). So, when it comes to make a card for James I like to keep things simple, in the hope that one day he might calm down on the ink and punches!

Anyway, this card features the stamp set Guy Greetings and Going Places Designer Series Paper. I love the travel theme of this paper, its a full stack of 6 x 6 papers printed with maps and street plans, along with some great marble type prints – all of which are great for guys.

Stampin' Up! UK Guy Greetings Going Places Designer Series paper

‘Husband’ fits perfectly into the Washi Label punch, while I grabbed my Circle collection framelits and my big shot for the anchor. Both stamps are from Guy Greetings and are stamped in Lost Lagoon. I remember a few years ago watching Shimelle Lane on YouTube create these great Scrapbook layouts using masses of Patterned Paper and she ALWAYS inked the edges to get the to ‘go together’ and I thought I would use the same technique here, so once I had all my pieces I grabbed out my Sahara Sand ink and a sponge and inked all the papers – I love the effect

Even James said it loved it!

Success at last

Irresistible Birthday

Stampin' Up! UK Colour me irresistible boys birthday card

Over the next month I’m planning a series of cards purely for the guys in your life. We all struggle with cards for our husbands, sons, dads etc. for me the key is keeping things simple.

Stampin' Up! UK Colour me irresistible boys birthday card

I sent this card to my brother for his birthday last month, it was super quick and simple to make, mostly thanks to Stampin’ Up!®

The main focus of this card is the Colour Me Irresistible Designer Series Paper (LOVE!) which comes in 12 x 12 sheets of white card stock with a resist pattern, as well as some sheets that are pre-coloured. This card uses a white sheet with a woodgrain resist, that I have inked with my Stampin’ Sponges in Chocolate Chip and Early Espresso to create a realistic wood effect.

Stampin' Up! UK boys birthday cardI grabbed for my sponges again for the sentiment strip blending Mint Macaron and Bermuda Bay, adding a Happy Birthday from the Perfect Pairings stamp set (free during Sale-a-bration!).

Beautiful Ride…. Man’s birthday card

Stampin' Up! UK Beautiful Ride mans birthday card

I think most of us struggle to make cards for the men in our lives, I do have a plan for this – I have a class featuring men’s card ideas coming up in April, and am planning for a couple of ‘mens cards weeks’ coming too! But, I think Stampin’ Up! are making it easier and easier for us to make wonderful cards for men!

Stampin' Up! UK Beautiful Ride mans birthday card

I made this card with a man in mind, one of my best friends husbands – who is car mad! To be honest, he’s a mini fan, so really I’m failing on this one. But I have made him cards with mini’s on for the past few years but Stampin’ Up! don’t make a mini stamp! So, a bug it is, and I’m sticking with it! It’s in the right colour, who cares about the car, right?! (ok, so maybe the actual car is important, but I’m a woman – and a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator – so colour is much more important!)

Stampin' Up! UK Beautiful Ride

This particular car can be found in the Beautiful Ride stamp set in this years Spring Summer Catalogue. It comes with some great sentiments for house moves, congratulations and wedding, but I wanted Birthday – so I turned to a trusty friend (Crazy About You) for the Happy Birthday.

The Car is coloured with a blender pen and Pacific Point, with Basic Black for the tyres and Pool Party for the windows. You have to be careful when using a Blender Pen (which I haven’t been here!) to avoid streaky lines (which I quite like!) and piling of the card stock. Piling is where the card becomes all sort of bobbly, and it happens when it gets too wet. The trick is to pick up lots of ink on your Blender Pen and to work quickly. I find that using a Blender Pen on Vellum is much easier (a technique I MUST do again soon!) but I didn’t want soft vellum on a mans card!

Stampin' Up! UK Boys Birthday card cars

To finish this one I painted a swish of Smoky Slate, and added 5 sequins from the Brights Sequin Assortment.
