Global Design Project #075 – Winged Creatures!

Global Design Project 075 Winged Creatures Theme Challenge Card using Garden in Bloom from Stampin' Up! UK

Ok, so something unusual is happening today… there are several reasons why but I wont bore you with them, but today I am live blogging. I usually schedule my blog posts, and often work several weeks ahead…. but I didn’t get my Global Design Project project made yesterday like I had planned, so I have been busy in my crafty office this morning instead, and rather than use this card as my Thursday blog post, I decided to get it out to you today. So, happy Tuesday!

gdp075

This weeks Global Design Project Challenge is a themed challenge… I really struggle with these! I checked the GDP before I left work yesterday morning (I have FINALLY finished my month long rotation of night shifts! YAY!) and spent my hour long drive home trying to think of stamp sets in my stash with Winged Creatures in! My initial thought was of the Butterflies dies, and although they are beautiful, I just wasn’t feeling them this week. Then I thought about using the Picture Perfect stamp set, and that beautiful humming bird…. but then there was this little niggle in my brain that said… “I’m sure there is a bee stamp in Garden In Bloom”…. but whilst driving I couldn’t check! The second I got home, and got my coat off I was in my crafty office pulling out stamp sets with Winged Creatures, and yes… there is a Bee stamp in Garden In Bloom!

Global Design Project 075 Winged Creatures Theme Challenge Just Because Friendship Card using Hexagon Embossing folder and Garden In Bloom from Stampin' Up!

The longest task in making this card was fussy cutting that Bee! he is so cute, but those antennae were really fiddly! My top tip when fussy cutting little pieces like my Bee friend here is to run your Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker around the edge of the piece once you have cut it… this way you can’t see any messy edges, or tell that I couldn’t get into some of the corners! Global Design Project 075 Winged Creatures Theme Challenge Card using Garden in Bloom from Stampin' Up! UK

The honeycomb boarder is created using the Hexagon Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (try saying that 6 times fast!) and I ran a Basic Black ink pad across the surface of the folder before inserting my Delightful Dijon card stock to get the black lines on the final piece. I then fussy cut the hexagons too, and cut of a few random pieces, this embossing folder is so much fun!

I finished the card with a little spritz of black, just to add a little touch of grunge, and to cover the fact that I managed to smudge the sentiment with my clumsy fingers!

Make It Monday | Pretty Floral Birthday Card

Make It Monday Faux Suede Technique using Garden In Bloom from Stampin' Up! UK

Make It Monday with Stampin' Up!

Hello! Welcome to Monday at StampinByHannah!

I shared this card on Wednesday last week, but just HAD to make a video tutorial, to go along with it.

Make It Monday Faux Suede Technique using Garden In Bloom from Stampin' Up! UK

So, the flower centres on these cards use the Faux Suede technique. I’m loving adding the extra dimension and texture this technique creates onto my cards. It is super simple too – take your punched / die cut shapes and bend and fiddle with it until the layers of the card start to separate, then just pull the layers apart. The reason it’s called Faux Suede is that the fibres in the card look kinda fuzzy when pulled out, and it looks like Suede! How cool!

Hope you love this card as much as I do, would LOVE to see your creations using the Faux Suede technique, share with me on my Facebook page and you might get a special something in the mail!

Global Design Project 057 – Colour Challenge

Global Design Project Colour Challenge using Garden in Bloom from Stampin' Up! UK

Hello! I am loving the colour challenge over at the Global Design Project this week; a great combination of Rich Razzleberry, Blushing Bride and Mint Macaron

gdp057

Now, you guys no how much I love a bit of white space, and so White always features on my projects, but this time I just couldn’t picture using one of these colours for my card base either; so I have added a touch of Crumb Cake to ground my design. Now, I’m sure that adding a neutral was allowed by the GDP, but now I can’t find it in the guidelines, oh well! Here is my card anyway

Global Design Project Colour Challenge using Garden in Bloom from Stampin' Up! UK

I’m still holding onto the last moments of summer, even though it is getting distinctly cold around here, I’m just not ready for Winter and Christmas yet! And this colour combination felt summer-y to me, so I grabbed for Garden in Bloom and made a summer-y Birthday card!

The Rich Razzleberry flower was stamped separately and fussy cut, before being added to the card with a dimensional.

The sentiment is from the Endless Birthday Wishes stamp set, I’m still loving the combination of those fonts, so pretty.

Global Design Project 057 using Garden in Bloom from Stampin' Up! UK

The flower centres are super easy to do too – punched out using the Blossom Builder Punch, and then I used to Faux Suede technique to create these cute dimensional flowers (video on that one coming soon!)

Thanks for visiting StampinByHannah today, hope to see you here again soon!

Global Design Project #045

Global Design Project Colour Challenge card featuring Garden in Bloom and Playful Backgrounds from Stampin' Up! UK

It has been so long since I took part in a challenge, I have really missed it. Anyway, I have been trying to get this card posted all week and seeing as I have finally found 10 minutes to get this blog post written, now appears to be the time!

Global Design Project Colour Challenge

I love this colour combination! So classy, but not a colour combo I reach for often!

Global Design Project Colour Challenge card featuring Garden in Bloom and Playful Backgrounds from Stampin' Up! UK

There are two stamp sets at work here; Garden in Bloom and Playful Backgrounds. The Flower is stamped in Melon Mambo and Basic Black before being fussy cut. While the stripy background is a stamp from Playful Backgrounds and has been stamped and then stamped again without re-inking to create this two tone effect

Global Design Project Colour challenge Garden in Bloom Playful Backgrounds Stampin' Up! Uk

I couldn’t help but to add something a little bit extra to this fairly simple card, I am obsessed with the Metallic threads at the moment and some loops of silver were just what this card needed.

Thanks so much for checking out my blog today, and I hope to see you all again here soon

Garden In Bloom | CASE

Garden In Bloom Stampin' Up! UK

So, I’m continuing my week of CASing the catalogue, and today I’m sharing a card using Garden in Bloom. I just love this stamp set, and while not new it is still one of my favourites. Its a great stamp set for a heap of techniques; its intended as a 2-step stamping set, but I love using it with watercolour, and heat embossing too!

Simple Garden In bloom card CASE Stampin' Up! UK

This card really caught my eye in the catalogue, the more I looked the more details I spotted – Love that!

Annual16_p146_a-30

So, first off there is the stamping; Garden In Bloom stamped in Blushing Bride, Pear Pizzazz and Sweet Sugarplum. Then a layer of Vellum, cut slightly smaller than the stamped layer, is added. I love adding Vellum to my cards but adhering it is always tricky. Here the Vellum is attached with a heap of Fast Fuse Adhesive underneath the embellishment, and I also added 3 very small blobs of Fine Tipped glue on white bits of the stamped area – and you can’t see it because it dries totally clear! Yay!

Garden in Bloom Birthday Card using Stampin' Up! UK productsThe embellishment is a combination of a strip of Affectionately Yours Speciality Designer Series Paper, Sweet Sugarplum Ruched Ribbon, and loops of Cooper Metallic Thread. All layered underneath the sentiment, along with a bow of Whisper White bakers twine.

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge | May 2016

Stampin' Up! UK Birthday Card English Garden

Stampin' Up! Sketch ChallengeIts that time again, I am so excited to see what everyone has made based on the sketch this month! I have chosen to use some Designer Series Paper that is on the retiring list and will sadly leave us on 31st May, but I am sure that some of the girls will show me some sneaky peaks of new products, and I cannot wait!

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge May 2016

This months awesome Sketch is brought to us by Kathleen from lilypopcrafts.

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge English Garden Birthday card using Stampin' Up! products

My challenge with this sketch was the diagonal element. I selected the Designer Series Paper – English Garden – based on the flowers on the sketch, but new I didn’t want to cut the corner off my paper. I had a little play around with the paper before coming up with this paper curl idea. I curled the Designer Series Paper around my paper piercer (you could use a pencil or a paint brush, anything round would work to be honest) and held the curl with a few Mini Glue Dots.

The Happy Birthday is from the Tin of Cards stamp set, and fits perfectly into the Decorative Label punch. I really wanted to create a boarder around the sentiment, and so cut apart a further 2 decorative label punch pieces (in Melon Mambo) to create a boarder.

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge Blog Hop Birthday Envelope English GardenOnce I had created the card I realised that it wouldn’t fit in a standard envelope, and so grabbed another piece of the same Designer Series paper and my Envelope Punch Board to create custom envelope.

Instructions:

Designer Series Paper – 8 7/8 x 8 7/8″ (I’m sticking to Imperial Measurements today, because I find them easier on the Envelope Punch Board)

Punch and Score on the first side at 3 3/8, and on the same sideat 4 1/8″

Rotate the paper by 90 degrees, line up the previous score lines with the marker on the punch board, punch and score. Repeat on all four sides.

Fold and burnish on the score lines, to create your envelope

Stampin' Up! UK Birthday Card English GardenI completed the envelope with a belly band of Night of Navy card stock (26 x 5 cm, Scored on the long side at 11, 12.5, 23.5 and 25 cm). The sentiment is heat embossed in white, and the flowers and butterfly are taken from the Garden in Bloom Stamp set.

Thank You Garden In Bloom

Thank You Card using Garden in Bloom and Tin of Cards from Stampin' Up! UK

As you know I love Watercolour, and getting really inky and messy when I’m card making. However, sometimes you just need a super quick card….

Thank You Card using Garden in Bloom and Tin of Cards from Stampin' Up! UK

But, I still want that watercolour / inky artsy look. I LOVE Garden in Bloom for this, it is designed to make you look like a watercolour master – but all you have used is stamps and ink!

Here I have used Blushing Bride for the flowers – there are other stamps that I could have layered but I was keeping things simple here! – with Melon Mambo for the smaller flowers and Pear Pizzazz leaves.

Freshly Made Sketches #219

Stampin' Up! UK Freshly Made Sketches 219 Joy Fold Card

So the blog post I had planned for today had to be postponed at the last minute, I promise you will see the next Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge really soon – it just needs a little more cooking! The wonderful Sam Johnson has been working super hard on this challenge, and we cannot wait to show you!

In light of that, I thought I would show you a different sketch challenge today. I’m LOVING using sketches again at the moment, I mean, 3 sketches in a week! And I haven’t taken part in the Freshly Made Sketches challenge in a while.

FMS Final 219-001

This sketch screamed fancy fold to me, a Joy Fold Card to be precise. I really enjoyed making this card, and cutting into some more of the back stock of Designer Series Paper. I struggle to use Designer Series Paper on cards at the best of times, but when its black I find using it almost impossible. However, I don’t think this effort is too shabby! The Designer Series Paper here is called Pretty Petals, and I have a whole pack of it waiting for the next person to join my team of Stampin’ Friends!

Stampin' Up! UK Freshly Made Sketches 219 Joy Fold Card

A Joy Fold card is super simple to make too, as its more about the cutting of the card stock, than the folding.

Measurements:

  • Black card stock – 10.5 x 22.3 cm. Scored at 10.5 cm
  • Black Designer Series Paper – 14.3 x 10.5 cm
  • Mint Macaron card stock – 7.5 x 21 cm. Scored at 10.5 cm
  • Floral Designer Series Paper – 7 x 10 cm
  • Very Vanilla card stock – 6.5 x 9.5 cm

I’ve also used two different stamp sets on this card; Garden in Bloom and Perfect Pairings for the sentiment. Perfect Pairings is a great sentiment set available for FREE during Sale-a-bration.

Watercolour Birthday

Stampin' Up! UK Garden in Bloom

As I’m sure you are aware, I love playing with watercolour, and this week has been no different. I’ve actually watercoloured so many cards this week that I’m having to hold onto them or you guys are going to get really sick of seeing watercolour cards!

Stampin' Up! UK Garden in Bloom

I’ve been working really hard over the past week to regain my crafty mojo. Does this happen to anyone else? where you are suddenly just not creative. at. all?! Where do you turn, I have to admit Pinterest it my fall back. I can spend hours (if I let myself) scrolling down pages and pages of card designs. I actually can’t remember what inspired this card, other than something similar on Pinterest (which I forgot to Pin and so cannot find!)

Stampin' Up! UK Watercolour with stamping

The flowers are taken from Garden in Bloom, stamped and heat embossed onto Watercolour Paper. The watercolour here is super simple, I grabbed two small paint brushes and a dish of water. One of the brushes is water only, and I use this to ‘paint’ the water onto the image. Then using the other brush to drop the ink into the water, magic happens as it dries I promise. The colours here are Pacific Point, Mossy Meadow and Crushed Curry.

I wanted a birthday card, and although Garden in Bloom is lovely, it doesn’t come with a birthday sentiment, so I reached back into my stamp collection and found this sentiment from Birthday Blossoms.

So pretty

Christmas in Bloom

Stampin' Up! UK Christmas Cards Cherry Cobbler

I love a good Christmas stamp set (of which we have many in the Autumn / Winter catalogue this year) but I always enjoy finding an alternative use for a non-Christmas themed set. A few weeks ago Garden in Bloom found its way into my craft room, and I don’t know whether it was just my excitement about Christmas but I saw Poinsettias amongst the flowers – maybe I’m just crackers!

Stampin' Up! UK Garden in Bloom Season of Cheer

Those flowers are stamped in Real Red, with the outline in Memento Black. I fussy cut the 3 flowers (or Poinsettias) it didn’t take all that long actually, they are quite simple shapes, plus the Stampin’ Up!® paper snips make fussy cutting super easy with their sharp to the tip blades and easy hold handles.

The strip of Designer Series Paper is taken from Season of Cheer, and the edge finished with a 0.5 cm strip of Gold Foil Paper.

Stampin' Up! UK Garden In Bloom Christmas Card

Now, the only problem with using a non-Christmas themed stamp set for Christmas cards is the lack of a good sentiment. So I reached into my stash of Christmas stamp sets and chose this sentiment from Festive Fireplace.

Do you like finding alternative uses for Stamps in your collection too?
