Inspire.Create.Challenge 045 | Embossing with Sailing Home

Hey Folks, its time for another fun Inspire.Create.Challenge and this time its a fun Embossing Challenge! I adore a good technique, and I think that embossing is one of those that is easy for a new crafter… once you’ve decided what time of embossing you’re going to do of course; Heat embossing or dry embossing with an embossing folder!

Card making challenge Embossing

I made this card weeks and weeks ago, actually before baby Niamh arrived (when I was trying to be organised!) and so had almost completely forgotten about it! Cue me having a bit of a panic last week when I realised that it was my turn to write the blog post for the Inspire.Create blog, and that I had NO idea what the challenge was!

Male thanks card using Sailing Home from Stampin' Up! with StampinByHannah

Sailing Home is one of my new masculine card favourites. It just makes really nice, simple cards. I’m sure I’ll be doing all sorts of techniques and fun things with it over the coming year, but today I thought I would stick to a bit of heat embossing and that lovely anchor image.

Heat Embossed Thank you card using Sailing Home from Stampin' Up! with StampinByHannah

Both the anchor and the sentiment are heat embossed in gold, while the rest of the stamping is in Balmy Blue. Keeping things simple with just a hint of background stamping and a bow in the new Night of Navy and Sahara Sand Bakers Twine to finish.

Loving the embossing? Why not pop over to the Inspire.Create blog and check out the other Design Team members creations, and add your own embossed project too!

Just Add Ink 445 | Embossing with Country Floral from Sale-a-bration!

I have been having so much fun taking part in Just Add Ink challenges every weekend. This week I’m a little ahead of my usual schedule as I have been off on Annual Leave this past week and so managed to get my card made on Friday!

This week, Just Add Ink has become Just Add Embossing! I have to admit that for all I often Heat Emboss sentiments, my collection of embossing folders often gets forgotten about! However, one of the new Sale-a-bration items is the most gorgeous Embossing Folder, and I spotted THIS card on Instagram on Thursday that I just HAD to CASE! So, this week’s Just Add Ink challenge was right up my street!

Sale-a-bration Happiness Card using Country Floral Embossing Folder from Stampin' Up! with StampinByHannah

This embossing folder is one of those thicker ones, so the dimension is just awesome! Here, I’ve pulled one of my favourite colours of all time, Fresh Fig, and embossed it, layered it onto a piece of Whisper White and then added it to a standard sized Gray Granite card front.

Of course, I haven’t just left it there! Because although this embossing folder is beautiful, the card needed a little extra something. So, I pulled out another product I haven’t used in a while (actually so long, I had to hunt my craft room to find it!), Shimmer Paint! To add a hint of shimmer to the embossed panel, I dabbed Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint onto the panel using a rag… but you could use a sponge, brayer, or your fingers!

Simple Embossed card using Country Floral from Sale-a-bration 2019 and Needle and Thread from Stampin' Up! with StampinByHannah

Because I really wanted to keep the embossing the main focus of this card, the rest is really quite simple. The sentiment (also embossed as it goes!) is taken from Needle and Thread, and the card is finished with a trio of Basic Adhesive-Backed Sequins

Team Colour Challenge | Sweet Cupcake

Team Colour Challenge Thank You card using Sweet Cupcake from Stampin' Up! UK

Every now and again someone in my team of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators we set a challenge, sometimes its business related, and other times its creative. A few weeks ago we set a challenge to create a card using two colours (plus a neutral) that were selected at random – by random I mean I spun my colour caddy with my eye shut and pulled out two inks – Marina Mist and Smoky Slate!

Team Colour Challenge Thank You card using Sweet Cupcake from Stampin' Up! UK

My current Online Card Class features the Sweet Cupcake stamp set, and I was just gathering ideas for cards for my class when this colour challenge came up. So I took advantage of the free theme to make a card using Sweet Cupcake as practice. You can find out more about my Sweet Cupcake class on my Online Card Class page.

This card was pretty simple to put together; the cupcake is super easy to stamp even though its in 3 layers, they line up really easily, I thought I would share a video using this stamp set again so you can see how easy it is to stamp.

I would love you to join in! Just select two inks totally at random and use those colours to make a project! Share with me in the coordinating post over on my Facebook Page, and I will select a winner next week. Entries close, midnight (UK) on 25th January 2017, and I’ll announce the winner on my blog!

Thanks for checking out StampinByHannah today, and I hope to see you again soon

Question of the day: What is your favourite type of cupcake?

Me? I just love cake! any flavour, any size, although the more chocolate the better!

Congratulations Card using Floral Phrases

Floral Phrases congratulations card using stamps from Stampin' Up! UK

As you will know if you have shopped with me, I LOVE to send cards to my customers, team members and other crafty friends, I don’t always need a reason, but I will send a card if someone has reached a milestone, or done something awesome. And so this card was one I made for one of the girls in the team a month or so ago for reaching one of her goals!

Congratulations card using Floral phrases from Stampin' Up! UK

I have been trying not to stamp the Floral Phrases stamp set in Night of Navy, but its hard to avoid when using it with the coordinating Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper! The Floral image is stamped directly onto the DSP, and then the spatter stamp from Gorgeous Grunge is heat embossed in Gold over the top.

Floral Phrases congratulations card using stamps from Stampin' Up! UKI have already shared this card with the team too, we had a great night of crafty chat and card making on Facebook a few weeks ago, and I shared this as my Swap! The person I sent it to had already received it, so I knew it was safe! I’m planning on a few online team nights in the coming months on our Team Facebook Group, and I would love you to join us! You can find out more about joining my team HERE!

Question of the day: What crafty project are you working on this week?

I’m still trying to get a stack of Christmas cards finished ready for James to send to his work and University friends, as well as finishing my projects for my blog up until the end of the year, oh and prepping for my classes and events in the new year too! busy busy!

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge – September 2016

Watercolour card using Frosted Medallions from Stampin' Up! UK for the Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge

Stampin' Up! Sketch ChallengeHello! I am so pleased to be back and sharing with the Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge! You may have noticed that we took last month off (August is just too busy already!) but we are back this month with a great challenge set by the gorgeous Mandy Barton! Although, we have no sketch! The challenge set to us was …. Anything Goes!

How scary! and I will admit that I have been wracking my brains on this one for most of the month, and actually only managed to create my project on Thursday evening! (and this blog post was only written at 8AM this morning, nothing like a deadline!) I am usually more organised, but this past week has been just crazy busy – I was at a team training event last weekend, and then my job has really kicked in this week too. Anyway, that’s enough of my moaning! Time for my card ….

Watercolour card using Frosted Medallions from Stampin' Up! UK for the Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge

This stamp set was gifted to me last weekend, and although it had caught my eye in the catalogue it hadn’t found it’s way into my craft room – but my lovely team leader is just a little bit psychic and always managed to send me things that I either LOVE and use all the time, or things that I LOVE but haven’t managed to purchase yet! This medallion it just so pretty, and I couldn’t not heat emboss it as it’s first use!

Saying that, the heat embossing is a little bit special, and a mixture of clear and copper heat embossing. I heat embossed the medallion in Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder, and then while I still had the powder melted I added a few pinches of Copper Embossing Powder too.

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge Frosted Medallions watercolour card using Stampin' Up! UK products

The background was created using Rose Red, Sweet Sugarplum and Tempting Turquoise. I just love this watercolour technique, I think I have a video on it somewhere, will have a look and share later in the week.

Oh, and before I go, the last totally cool technique I have used on this card is using the Fine-Tip glue pen to create little raised dots, that are almost like water droplets. So pretty!

Right, on-wards with the blog hop! Please use the NEXT button to hop on to the fabulous Sally Shaw, I cannot wait to see what she has created

Love Ya

Stampin Up! UK Everything Eleanor Valentines

With the end of January fast approaching, its almost time to start thinking about Valentines day! Here in the UK we only send one Valentines card (along with a gift, maybe) to our most loved one. I remember as a kid sending anonymous Valentines cards to my latest crush via a school post box that was rolled out for occasions such as Valentines and Christmas. Saying that I have made several Valentines cards so far this year, a girl has to have options!

Stampin Up! UK Everything Eleanor Valentines

This card was inspired by a gorgeous Valentines Project from one of this years Artisan Design Team, Steffi Helmschrott, from Germany. I loved her use of watercolour to create a soft background for her card, and took layout inspiration too

Steffi used the gorgeous First Sight stamp set for her card, but I have yet to get my hands on that, so I grabbed for my ever faithful Everything Eleanor instead. I love the swirl stamp in this set, its lovely for wedding stationary and wedding congratulations cards.

Stampin Up! UK Valentines card 2016

You all know how much I love watercolouring, and adore our Watercolour Paper, but for this card I wanted something a little softer and so opted for Shimmery White card stock instead. I heat embossed that swirl in Clear Embossing powder, before adding washes of Blackberry Bliss ink with a large flat paintbrush. This card took a while as each layer dried, but the effect was totally worth it.

The ‘Love Ya’ comes from a Hostess Exclusive set, Floral Wings, from this years Annual catalogue (which is still have left, if you want one let me know!). Stamped in Blackberry Bliss ink and repeatedly heat embossed in Clear embossing powder (I think there are 3 layers of embossing here!) and the card is finished with a Sweetheart (punched) in Blackberry Bliss and some loops of Whisper White bakers twine

A grungy birthday…

Stampin' Up! UK male birthday card

I had to make a very special birthday card last week, for my wonderful Pops (Grandad) who turns 94 (I think) today! I really struggle to make cards for him, something masculine, not cheesy, classic, but unique. So this year I thought I’d go a bit grungy.

Stampin' Up! UK World Map grunge birthday card

I’ve tried something different with my photo set up again today, I’m not sure – but the photo had to be taken in a bit of a hurry before I posted it on its 270 mile journey on Friday – Yes, I know I should be more organised, but when it comes to making cards for Family, its often a bit last minute!

Anyway, back to the card. I used Shimmery White card stock on this one (not that you can tell in the photo!) I love this card stock, it has fine glitter sort of embedded into it for a soft, shimmery look – and its great for inky techniques or watercolour too! I need to add another pack onto my next order actually, I’m running out! Man, I’m waffly today! I love Lost Lagoon for men’s cards, and so stamped the World Map in Lost Lagoon onto Shimmery White card stock, before running it through my Big Shot with the Decorative Dots embossing folder.

Stampin' Up! UK male birthday card

I got all inky at this point, adding Mint Macaron, Lost Lagoon and Tip Top Taupe onto the card with Stampin’ Sponges. I’m not sure the Mint really added much, but it is there I promise!

The sentiment is taken from Guy Greetings, and is stamped in Tip Top Taupe onto another piece of Shimmery White card stock, then punched with the Extra Large Oval Punch. I sponged the edges with Lost Lagoon before attaching to the card over some loops of Linen thread.

What about you, do you struggle with men’s cards too? What’s your tactic?
