Techniques | How to Emboss using Stampin’ Up! dies…

How to make a fun floral Kindness card and Emboss with dies using Abstract Impressions from Stampin' Up!

StampinByHannah Techniques How to Emboss using Stampin’ Up! dies…

Stamping Techniques Series

Hello! I haven’t done a proper Techniques post in AGES! But, I have a couple coming up for you, because we have a really cool new tool that works with the Big Shot… and i just cannot get enough!

How to emboss with Stampin' Up! dies Video Tutorial using Springtime Impressions from Stampin' Up!

One of the many new and fabulous items in this years Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue is the Big Shot Embossing Mats. They come in a pack of 3, and work with the Stampin’ Up! Big Shot Platform to allow you to create some really cool embossed effects using your cutting and embossing dies. The Springtime Impressions die I’ve used on this card is designed to cut… and actually I have already used it that way on THIS card from Tuesday… but it looks AMAZING embossed!

Check the video to see how easy it is to do…

There are several Big Shot sandwiches that work to emboss your dies, and which one you will use depends on what kind of die you are using…. I have another one on Monday using some of the embossing dies.

This card used the following:

  • Big Shot Platform (without the Thin Die Adaptor)
  • Standard Cutting Plate
  • Die (cutting side up)
  • Card stock
  • BLUE Embossing Mat
  • White Impressions Plate

Fun Floral embossed Kindness Card using Abstract Impressions from Stampin' Up!

I couldn’t not add a bit of stamping though using the coordinating Abstract Impressions Stamp Set. I LOVE that this stamp set comes bundled with these dies, they are so cool and work so perfectly together even though the dies don’t actually cut any of the stamped images. PLUS by buying the bundle you save 10%…. that’s a win win in my book!

Techniques | How to create a hard lines watercolour background

How to created hard lines watercolour background with Stampin' Up! inks

StampinByHannah Techniques How to create a hard lines watercolour background

Some weeks working out which technique to share can be a struggle… but not this week! I made the card in this post last week, after I spotted a card on one of the Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator Facebook groups, and just had so much fun creating the background that I knew I HAD to share it!

Pretty Wedding Card using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

This card would be so lovely as a Wedding congratulations, or engagement card. I have used a sentiment from the Oh So Eclectic stamp set, mainly because it coordinates with the dies… but looking at it now a Congratulations sentiment would have worked better!

This is one of those cards with lots of layers… so I will give you a quick run down:

  • Watercoloured technique on Shimmery White card stock (check the video for all the details on this one!)
  • Die cut area using the Eclectic Layers dies. The whole watercoloured panel is popped up on Dimensionals, and I have added some of the die cut pieces back in (in an almost inlay die cut style) with some Gold Glimmer Paper pieces added in too
  • Two leaves punched from Champagne Foil with the Leaf Punch
  • A vellum Everyday Label (punched)
  • Flower die cut from the Eclectic Layers dies in Blushing Bride with a Clear Faceted Gem in the centre
  • Sentiment heat embossed in White, punched with the Classic Label Punch

The focus of this blog post isn’t that card though… it’s about the techniques right!

The background is created with a fun, and quick, watercolour technique that I am calling Hard Lines Watercolour (I’m sure someone else has a better name for it!). I LOVE doing this for a quick and easy background. It’s super pretty when you use a soft colour like Blushing Bride, but it can be really striking in a bolder colour too!

Fun and pretty Valentines card using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

I think I have covered everything in the video… it’s really just about adding layers, and drying in between. Using a Heat Tool really helps as the ink drys before it has time to spread out, and therefore gives those lovely hard lines! I could totally play around with this for hours… different colours, different sized paint brushes, different amounts of water all create different effects but they are all so pretty.

The panel I created in this week’s Techniques Video has also been made into a card… and you can see that if you subscribe to my emails in my Stampin’ Inspiration Monday Video!

Thoughtful Thursday | How to make a Gratitude Journal

Thoughtful Thursday Gratitude Journal using Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper and Lovely Inside & Out from Stampin' Up!

StampinByHannah Thoughtful Thursday How to make a Gratitude Journal

Stampin' Up! UK Independent Demonstrator StampinByHannah Thoughtful Thursday

I have been mulling over this series for a while. I started it with a plan, and then I sort of bottled it a bit… but I have decided that it is time to start the series I intended. So, I started 2018 with a plan to use Mindfulness to help conquer my anxiety, and the first few weeks were great… but then I sort of fell of the wagon. So here we are at the 1st of February, and I am starting again (shall we call January a trail run?).

How to make a Gratitude Journal using Designer Series Paper with Naturally Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

One of my Mindfulness Practices is keeping a Gratitude Journal, which sounds really American and cheesy as a Brit… but it really really helps! When I do this on a regular basis I find that I manage to contain my negative thoughts and replace them with positive self-talk. This is SO powerful and prevents me from spiralling into a vortex of Anxiety and panic attacks about silly things.

I have recently been using the GLAD style of Gratitude; where GLAD stands for Grateful, Learned, Accomplishment and Delight. So each day I write down an event or feeling that matches each one of those prompts.

Thoughtful Thursday Designer Series Paper Notebook using Naturally Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

This journal is super easy to put together; as really its just copy paper and a piece of Designer Series Paper. These would make a really cute gift for a party hostess or a new team member too.

Measurements:

Designer Series Paper; Naturally Eclectic – 21.5 x 14.8 cm

5 sheets of copy paper cut in half

Directions:

  1. Fold each half sheet of copy paper in half. I didn’t bother to score first..
  2. Fold the Designer Series Paper in half
  3. Layer each piece of copy paper on top of each other, and then put this pile into the Designer Series Paper cover
  4. I have stapled mine together, but you could sew it (I have one of those long arm staplers for when I’m making wedding stationary… so I put it to use here!)

How to make a note book using Designer Series Paper from Stampin' Up!

I added some extra decoration to the front cover with some layers of card stock and stamping using the Lovely Inside & Out stamp set. To keep it coordinated I picked out the colours in the Designer Series Paper; Night of Navy, Lemon Lime Twist, Soft Sky and Tranquil Tide. The stamp set has a collection of mix and match sentiments and I thought this one would be nice for the front of my journal.

Thanks for stopping by today, and I hope to see you again soon

Technique Tuesday | Faux In-lay Die Cutting

I have recently fallen head of heals in love with my Big Shot machine again. My Big Shot was one of those big ticket items I bought when I started crafting 5 years ago, and I have to admit it didn’t get the love and attention it deserved. However, since becoming a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator last year, the amount of use my Big Shot gets keeps increasing, and I am the first to admit that its starting to get tired through over use! I am in desperate need of new cutting plates since my current set are now sporting the ‘stained glass’ effect, and I am forever tightening the handle. I might have to buy it some Christmas presents this year!

Stampin' Up! UK Faux InLay Die Cutting Technique Tuesday

I really enjoy the In-lay die cutting technique, but trying to get all those pieces back into the paper can be a bit of a pain. I have recently tried a few different types of Faux In-Lay Die Cutting, using both the big shot AND punches!

There is a Big Shot add on that is a must for this one, the Premium Crease Pad. Designed to help form the creases when using Bigz Dies, the crease pad stops the die from cutting all the way through your card stock, leaving an embossed effect. This works on both detailed dies, like the Hello You Thinlits, and Butterflies Thinlit dies (love those!) as well as framelit dies, like the Flower Fayre dies that coordinated with the Flower Patch stamps

Stampin' Up! UK Faux In Lay Die cutting video tutorial

In-layed punching is super simple, and is really effective with stamped images, or Designer Series Paper. Keep your eyes on a blog for some more of this technique for sure!
