StampinByHannah Techniques Die Cut Letterpress

Stamping Techniques Series

Hello! So, today see’s the return of my Techniques Series following the completion of my Christmas Countdown a couple of weeks ago! I LOVE doing these techniques videos, they are often as much learning for me as they are for you… particularly this one, which I have now filmed twice! I might share the other card with you at some point, but it was very similar to THIS one I made for a blog hop a couple of months ago.

Techniques Video Tutorial how to do die cut letterpress with dies from Stampin' Up!

This fun card uses the Swirly Scribbles dies and the Daisy Delight Stamp set from the Annual Stampin’ Up! catalogue. The Die Cut Letterpress technique works best with bright, fun colours and I have used Lemon Lime Twist and Calypso Coral here today.

Die Cut Letterpress Tips and Tricks:

  • Practice! This technique is one of those that might take a couple of attempts to get right… play around with the number of layers of card stock you need to get your desired embossing depth
  • Remember that when you stack your die cuts you need to ensure you have a layer of Vellum on the bottom as this will help transfer your ink later on
  • Use fun dies to create your letterpress…. my favourites for this technique are the Swirly Scribbles, Eclectic Layers, and  Lovely Words

How to make a cool Thank You card using Swirly Scribbles and Daisy Delight from Stampin' Up!

Can you believe that the layer of Vellum is held on with Fast Fuse! Isn’t it cool that you cant see it!

Before I go, do check out the End of Year Sale, particularly for those Black Rhinestones as they are retiring on the 2nd January and I don’t want you to miss them!

Creativity Combined Blog Hop | Thank You

StampinByHannah Creativity Combined Blog Hop | Thank You

I have something special for you today. Over the past few months I have been working super hard to improve my little corner of the internet, and today I, along with another member of the team, have organised a blog hop to say Thank You to the wonderful Sarah who has helped us all!

I am always after a new technique to try, and when I came across this one on YouTube a few weeks ago I knew it would be perfect for today’s blog post! There will be a video tutorial on this one shortly because I think it is awesome!Thank You Card featuring Die Cut Letterpress technique and Eclectic Layers Thinlits from Stampin' Up!

I have to say this photo doesn’t do this technique justice… as the leaves are embossed into the card. The technique is called Die Cut Letterpress and it is so much fun! The leaves are from the Eclectic Layers Thinlits dies. I die cut them twice out of Thick Whisper White Card stock and once from Vellum. Then layered them together using Tombow glue, the Vellum piece needs to be on the bottom for the inky bit to work.

Then, add ink to the Vellum (I dabbed an ink pad onto the leaves) and run through your Big Shot. The sandwich is important here…. I used the platform I use for embossing folders, then a clear plate, my silicone mat, card stock, Leaves, and the second clear plate. I also found that a couple of sheets of card stock as a shim helped get a good impression, but my Big Shot is on its last legs and the centre of the rollers doesn’t have a lot of pressure.

Creativity Combined Blog Hop Thank You card using Oh So Eclectic and Daisy Delight from Stampin' Up!

The Thank You sentiment is taken from the Daisy Delight Stamp set and is stamped in Berry Burst ink. The card was a little bright at this point and I really wanted to add some Black (I’m on a bit of a Black kick at the moment!). So the black strip is embossed using the Layered Leaves 3D embossing Folder, and the card is finished with a trio of Black Rhinestone jewels and some ink splatter.

Please click on the links below to see the other Thank You cards made by the Creativity Combined Team, and don’t forget to leave them all some comment love!

Make It Monday | Oh So Eclectic Layered Tag

Make It Monday Fun watercoloured tags using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

Make It Monday

Ok, so I have a confession to make…. I was supposed to film a video for Saturday about how to use the Embossing dies that come in the die set I’ve used today… but the end of last week was a bit of a disaster and I didn’t get to it… So, I will leave my top tips for using Embossing dies down at the bottom of this post instead. And I have managed to film 4 How To… videos for Saturday for the next 4 weeks already… I don’t really know how I missed this week! Oh Well…. on with today’s project!

Make It Monday Fun watercoloured tags using Oh So Eclectic from Stampin' Up!

These sweet tags have been made with the Oh So Eclectic bundle from Stampin’ Up! You can find all the directions in the video below… but here are my top tips for using Embossing Dies.

There are 3 dies in the Eclectic Layers thinlits dies that don’t cut (and a couple more in the Build a Bike set too!). These dies are designed to be used the same as a cutting die, but rather than cut they leave an impression of the image instead.

  • Use your standard cutting sandwich in your Big Shot… Magnetic Platform and two standard cutting plates
  • Use a thicker card stock for a better impression… I like using Watercolour paper, Thick Whisper White or Thick Very Vanilla
  • Add Colour with a sponge or brayer after to enhance the embossing

https://youtu.be/oI116Ukmse8

The tags were created with a 2″ wide strip of Watercolour paper… main as this is the width of the Tag Topper Punch! With the embossing dies, a hint of watercolour and some die cuts this project was done in a flash… what is your favourite quick make? Share it with me over on my Facebook Page I would LOVE to see….

Before I go… I just wanted to remind you about my current Card Class… we are using the gorgeous Oh So Eclectic stamp set and die bundle, along with the Layered Leaves embossing folder and a heap of other goodies to make 10 totally individual cards…. you can find out more HERE!

Techniques Series | 2 Step Stampin’

Technique Card Making Video Tutorial 2 step stamping using Bike Ride from Stampin' Up!

Stamping Techniques Series

This technique is one of my stamping favourites…. 2 Step Stamping. It requires a certain type of stamp, designed especially for it, but it creates stunning results. Stampin’ Up! have a whole heap of stamps designed for 2 Step Stamping…. I will list a few at the bottom of this post… but the one I am using today is Bike Ride.

I was lucky enough to receive this stamp set for free when I attended Stampin’ Up! OnStage last April. It is a fun mix of images, all based around a bicycle…. but I know that there are lots of ways to use it leaving the bike behind. Today though, I am using the lovely bicycle to create two cards; one for the girls, and one for the guys!

Girls and Guys cards video tutorial how to 2 step stamp using Bike Ride from Stampin' Up!

This stamp set is special because its not just the bicycle that uses 2 Step Stamping, but the accessories also feature the same technique. The girls version uses Flirty Flamingo and Basic Black for the bicycle, Crumb Cake and Early Espresso for the basket, and Pear Pizzazz and Melon Mambo for the flowers. These stamps line up really easily without the need for a stamp positioning tool; like the Stamp-a-ma-jig

Technique Card Making Video Tutorial 2 step stamping using Bike Ride from Stampin' Up!Both of these cards also feature a piece of the Pick a Pattern Designer Series Paper… actually, its the same piece of Pick a Pattern Designer Series Paper. I love that our papers are double sided, and quite often I have to debate which side I love more! I have toned down the brightness of the paper here by layering a piece of Vellum over the top, just to stop that lovely bicycle from getting lost.

One of my favourite features of this stamp set is the it comes bundled with coordinating dies…. no need to attempt to fussy cut that bike! All bundles in the Stampin’ Up! catalogue are a great deal, you get 10% off by buying a bundle compared to buying the stamps and dies separately!

The boys version uses Pacific Point, Basic Black, Crumb Cake and Tangerine Tango, and replaces the flowers with a stack of books!

Measurements:

Card Base – 29.7 x 10.5 cm, scored at 14.8 cm

Designer Series paper – 7.5 x 12 cm (although it will be shorter than this in the end, due to that fun ripped edge!)

Vellum – 7 x 12 cm

Techniques Series 2 Step Stamping using Bike Ride from Stampin' Up!

I have left sentiments off these cards; partly because I couldn’t think of a sentiment I wanted to use, but also these would be great ‘just because’ cards to send a kind note and make someone smile!

Make It Monday | Faux Stained Glass meets Happy Birthday Gorgeous!

Make It Monday Team Training Swap card Faux Stained Glass technique using Happy Birthday Gorgeous from Stampin' Up!

Make It Monday

I blogged a card using this technique a few weeks ago, after making THAT card I was working on some swap cards for a recent team training event (that was yesterday, and I will tell you more about it later in the week!) and couldn’t help but use the same design and technique. I love attending crafty events, particularly when they are with my team or Stampin’ Up! One of our favourite things to do at events is to swap creative ideas. This particular swap had a theme, a colour combination of; Island Indigo, Soft Sky, Flirty Flamingo and Whisper White.

Techniques Series | 3D Embossing

Card making techniques 3D Embossing using Stampin' Up! products

Stamping Techniques Series

You guys know how much I love a good technique…. and I love it even more when its simple but effective! and this is one of those. Actually these cards would be awesome on a Simple Sunday, but today is only Friday (and we all love Fridays more than Sundays right?!)

Card making techniques 3D Embossing using Stampin' Up! products

This card would make an awesome birthday card for the special guys in your life, I am sure they will love the fun embossing. The only trick here is the 3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (see why I just call it 3D embossing!). I love these embossing folders, and Stampin’ Up! have 5 different patterns available (you can find all 5 listed at the end of this post).

These embossing folders are really easy to use, but they are thicker than a standard embossing folder (due to the 3D effect!) and so use a different Big Shot sandwich. You need; your Big Shot Platform (or the platform you use for embossing folders), then the embossing folder and card stock, and ONE standard cutting plate on the top.

Measurements:

Card base – 21 x 14.8 cm

Layer for embossing – 10 x 14.3 cm

Sentiment strip – 10.5 x 2 cm

Card making techniques 3D Embossing using Stampin' Up! products

This card is finished with a birthday sentiment from Guy Greetings stamped on Sahara Sand card stock, and a trio of Glitter Enamel Dots.

Techniques Series | Selective Inking

Techniques Series Simple Lots of Love Card Selective Inking Tutorial Video

I am so sorry that this post didn’t go live yesterday…. something happened to my blog… all fixed now and ready to share…. enjoy x

Stamping Techniques Series

I have a nice, simple card for you today… but its a technique I use a LOT! so I though I would share my tips for Selective Inking!

Techniques Series Simple Lots of Love Card Selective Inking Tutorial Video

The original stamp reads… Sending Lots of Love, well, I didn’t want the ‘Sending’ so I grabbed for my Stampin’ Write Markers…

  • Use the side of the brush tip of the marker to colour the stamp
  • For solid stamps (like this one) use LOTS of ink… colour the stamp, and then colour it again… the more ink you add the less streaky lines you will have on your final stamped image
  • The ink will dry on the stamp, breath on the stamp before you stamp it to re-activate the ink for a perfect stamped image!

Suite Share….

Suite Shares from Stampin' Up!

Ok… so what is a Suite Share?

These fun collections of Stampin’ Up! goodies give you a tester of each suite in the catalogue…. Each month a different collection will be available as a share, and each share contains 12 6×6 sheets of Designer Series Paper, 24 card bases (cut and scored), along with samples of ribbons and embellishments that coordinate with the suite! Techniques Series | Tone on Tone Embossing Paste

Tone on Tone Embossing Paste Video Tutorial using Happy Birthday Thinlit from Stampin' Up!

Stamping Techniques Series

Over the last few weeks we have explored a variety of Masking techniques, but I think this one is my favourite! Tone on Tone Embossing Paste…. now, I know that this isn’t really about the masking… but there is a Mask involved! So… I’m classing it as the final piece in our Masking journey!

Techniques video using Lift me up from Stampin' Up! How to use Embossing Paste

This fun card uses Lift Me Up and the coordinating Up and Away Thinlits…. along with the cloud mask from the Party Pattern Masks pack. I am loving the dimension created by that embossing paste… while it doesn’t distract from the card. I still slightly obsessed with this balloon die…. I really could just die cut it all day long

Top Tips:

  • Move EVERYTHING off your desk before you start…. seriously Embossing Paste gets everywhere (or is that just me?!)
  • Use a tile or Silicone Mat to mix your Embossing Paste and Re-inker
  • Add as little re-inker as possible… add too much as the embossing paste will become runny and you wont get that crisp masked effect

Tone on Tone Embossing Paste Video Tutorial using Happy Birthday Thinlit from Stampin' Up! UK

I am such a Purple girl…. I have a friend who buys me things, just because they are purple! … but I don’t use Wisteria Wonder as much as I should, it is so pretty… especially when paired with Gold.

Tone on Tone Embossing Paste Video Tutorial using Happy Birthday Thinlit from Stampin' Up!The Happy Birthday Thinlit is so pretty… although it can be a bit difficult to adhere to your projects. I would advise that you add Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet to the reverse of your card stock before running this through your Big Shot, this then gives you a self adhesive die cut for you to stick to your project!

This card is finished with a trio of Gold Stars from the Metallic Enamel Shapes…. gonna need some more of those really soon!

What is your preferred method for adhering detailed die cuts?
