Stamping Techniques Series

Today’s video features one of the those techniques that I use so often that I forget to mention it! I know… I’m so bad! But, it’s super pretty and really easy. I actually used this one on my husbands Valentines card this year.

How to make a card using Faux Watercolour with Watercolour Wings from Stampin' Up!

Faux watercolour is super easy to do… all you need is a fairly solid stamp, Stampin’ Up! ink and an Aqua-Painter. It creates a really pretty, soft effect, and is a great way to add that extra something to a card. I do of course have a couple of Top Tips:

  • Use Thick Whisper White card stock, Shimmery White card stock, or Watercolour paper
  • Ensure your ink pads are well inked and nice and juice-y
  • Use an Aqua-Painter that has plenty of water in it, but don’t squeeze… the water will naturally come out of the Aqua-painter as you use it, but if you squeeze you might flood your card stock and spread the ink too far
  • Have fun!

How to make a card using Faux Watercolour with Watercolour Wings from Stampin' Up!

The sentiment on this card is taken from the Beautiful You stamp set, and is punched out with the 1-3/4″ circle punch and matted onto the Pretty Label punched from Island Indigo.

Global Design Project #084 | Just for you Watercolour Wings

Global Design Project #084 Just for you card using Watercolour Wings from Stampin' Up!

Oh my goodness, this might be my fastest make ever! I managed to get into my craft room, get inspiration and make this card in less than 20 minutes… which is good really seeing as I am writing this at 21:30 on Monday night!

This week’s Global Deign Project challenge is to CASE the designer…. and well, I’ve already CASE’d this particular designer once in the past week, but she is totally awesome! I am so proud to be a part of her wonderful team of stampers…. it is of course, the totally gorgeous Michelle Last!

I have taken a few elements of Michelle’s card to create my own… the neutral card base, embossed background and that square. Is anyone else a bit obsessed with the Stitched Shapes dies at the minute, or is it just me…. I can’t put them away!

Global Design Project #084 Just for you card using Watercolour Wings from Stampin' Up!

The other element I have taken from Michelle’s card is a stamped and die cut image, but I have swapped the bird for a butterfly. This one is stamped from the Watercolour Wings stamp set, and uses Crumb Cake, Rich Razzleberry and Rose Red, and I have curled the wings a little for a bit of added dimension

Global Design Project #084 Just for you card using Watercolour Wings from Stampin' Up!

Short and sweet blog post from me today… like I said its 21:30, and I am ready for my bed! Hope you have a great crafty week and thanks for stopping by today

Global Design Project #080 | You’re So Kind

You're So Kind card for the Global Design Project using Butterflies Watercolour Wings from Stampin' Up!

Oh wow! I cannot believe that I got a Special Mention for my Global Design Project card last week! Totally made my Monday.

This weeks Global Design Project is to Case The Designer, and this weeks card is the creation of the lovely Louise Sharpe; Mrs GDP herself! You can check out the card inspiration over on the Global Design Project Blog.

Global Design Project Case the Designer Louise Sharpe Watercolour Kindness card using Watercolour Wings from Stampin' Up! UK

I have used Louise’s card as a sketch, and the colour combo was inspired by my ribbon draw! I reached into my stash of ribbon because I knew I wanted to use ribbon as the horizontal element and the first ribbon I picked up was this lovely ruched example in Sweet Sugarplum.

The butterfly can be found in Watercolour Wings. It is made of 4 different stamps, that I have stamped in 4 separate colours; Sahara Sand (stamped off once), Blushing Bride, Sweet Sugarplum, and Rich Razzleberry.

You're So Kind card for the Global Design Project using Butterflies Watercolour Wings from Stampin' Up!

The tag is a 2″ wide piece of Watercolour paper that I have added a heavy wash of Sweet Sugarplum onto. I added different layers of watercolour (I love those hard edges in watercolour don’t you?) to create some more depth and texture. The sentiment is also from Watercolour Wings and is stamped in Rich Razzleberry.

I finished this card with a double bow of Linen Thread (one of my favourite elements of Louise’s card), Linen Thread is so easy to tie bows with, and I love this one where I cut a long length and folded it in half before tying the bow.

Have you joined in with the Global Design Project this week? I can’t wait to see everyone else’s creations!

Go Wild with Watercolour Wings!

Watercolour Wings Card using Stampin' up! Uk products

Hello! Happy Thursday! I thought I would share a card I sent to a friend a couple of weeks ago with you guys today. I know this card has arrived, and so is ‘safe to share!’

Watercolour Wings Card using Stampin' up! Uk products

This card uses the 2-step stamping technique I shared on Monday. However, instead of using Picture Perfect I grabbed Watercolour Wings! I am so super happy this stamp set is stopping around a while longer.  I used the Designer Series Paper for the colour inspiration. I love that Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper coordinates exactly with our inks and card stocks – which means that we can take the colours from the papers and know that the colours work together. I did add a colour into the mix, seeing as Go Wild featured a totally neutral palate, I added a touch of Rich Razzleberry.

Watercolour wings 2 step stamping using stampin up uk products

The butterfly is stamped in 3 layers; the base layer is Sahara Sand, with layer two in Crumb Cake and the final detail in Rich Razzleberry. I find it easier to die cut this butterfly (using the coordinating framelit die) before I stamp in the butterfly body – I cannot tell you how many headless butterflies I had before I figured that out!

This card was finished with a series of loops of Gold Metallic Thread behind the butterfly and the sentiment heat embossed in White.

Watercolour Week | Faux Watercolouring With Watercolour Wings

Faux Watercolour technique featuring Watercolour Wings from Stampin' Up! UK

I hope you have enjoyed this week of Watercolour, I have LOVED making the samples this week!

This final card is a bit of a cheat though – Faux Watercolouring. I know, it sounds silly, but just take a look…

Faux Watercolour technique featuring Watercolour Wings from Stampin' Up! UK

This is so super simple! It doesn’t even require a brush!

Watercolour Wings is awesome, and I am so pleased that it is with us for another year too. The idea of this stamp set is that you are able to layer different inks and create a watercolour effect butterfly (Faux watercolouring in itself!) however, there is a massive trend around at the moment of sort of running watercolour, where the paint has run. Which is what I have done here. The butterfly is stamped in 3 layers; Pool Party, Marina Mist and Melon Mambo. After each layer the Watercolour paper was spritzed with water and dried with a Heat Tool to create these runs of ink and hard edges. So pretty!

The sentiment is taken from Balloon Celebration and the card is finished with a splatter of Gold Wink of Stella and some Clear Wink of Stella on the centre of the butterfly.

Pinkies Blog Hop | Pillow Box Note Card Collection

Stampin' Up! UK Watercolour Wings Note Card Collection

Blog hop logo

Welcome to another Pinkies Blog Hop! As it’s World Card Making Day today, we hope everyone will get some time to craft, and we’ve created some lovely projects to help inspire you to create your own beautiful card. Simply use the buttons at the end of each post to keep hopping!

Stampin' Up! UK Watercolour Wings Note Card Collection

I hope you’re enjoying our hop today. This is my first Pinkies Blog Hop (and hopefully not my last!) and I wanted to create something that would describe my style of crafting for this event. There are so many great stamp sets in this years Annual catalogue that picking one favourite is incredibly difficult, but I think Watercolour Wings is probably one of my most used. Its such a easy set to use, although the effect looks complicated. The butterflies are stamped from 5 different stamps – 4 layering butterfly wings, and a body – and each one is stamped in one colour!

Stampin' Up! UK Pinkies Blog Hop World Card Making Day

So the first, most solid stamp is inked and stamped off onto scrap paper 3 times before being stamped onto the card stock, the next stamp is stamped off twice, the 3rd stamp is stamped off once, and the final image is stamped straight onto the butterfly to create a lovely layered image. These butterflies also coordinate with the Butterflies Thinlits Die set – which is awesome because fussy cutting isn’t my friend!

The note cards themselves are 3 x 3″ cards in four of the most recent In-Colours; Mint Macaron, Watermelon Wonder, Cucumber Crush and Delightful Dijon. Complete with a layer of the same card stock measuring 2 3/4″ square, matching butterfly and sentiment piece.

The Thank you sentiment is taken from Something to Say, stamped in Tip Top Taupe and punched out with the Washi Label punch. I found the punch a little long for the sentiment so inserted the punched piece back into the punch for a bit of a trim, before mounting on a full sized punch of the Washi Label.

Stampin' Up! UK World Card Making Day 2015

I couldn’t finish this project without making a pocket for the cards to go in, and without using my favourite item from the Autumn/Winter catalogue this year – The Pillow Box Die of course! I have used the die so much in the past few weeks, I’m sure regular readers of my blog are sick of the sight of it! Here I have created a Pillow Pocket by only putting the die off the edge of my card stock before cutting, so only one end has the pillow box closure. Finished with a belly band of Gold Designer Series Paper from the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack and another one of those butterflies in Tip Top Taupe.

Oh, and of course no set of note cards would be complete without some envelopes, so I used the same Designer Series Paper to create 4 envelopes with the Envelope Punch Board.

Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I hope you enjoy the rest of the hop!

Decorated Frames….. and some stamping too!

Stampin' Up! Decorated Frames Home decor stamping butterflies

Hi! Welcome to StampinByHannah! I hope you enjoy my blog, feel free to have a poke around, leave some likes, and follow along with some tutorials! Check out my latest Classes in the menu bar at the top of the page, and I can’t wait to hear from you!

Todays project was planned as one thing, but changed along the way to be something a little bit different! Stampin' Up! UK watercolour wings stamping tutorial

My big plan was a video tutorial decorating this photo frame. However, I started making my sample, added the two butterflies and a bow of Dotted Lace trim, and decided it as so gorgeous it didn’t really need any more – or really warrant a video tutorial either! However, the butterflies IN the frame (also beautiful!) could do with some explanation! The frame came from Asda for about £1.50

I am loving the Watercolour Wings bundle. This great stamp set, comes complete with two dies, one to cut the whole stamped butterfly and another smaller to coordinate with the Butterfly Thinlits dies.

Stampin' Up! Decorated Frames Home decor stamping butterflies

There are so many ink colours here. The framed version uses; Mint Macaron, Bermuda Bay, Delightful Dijon, Wisteria Wonder and Soft Sky. While the un-framed one uses; Lost Lagoon, Mint Macaron, Pink Pirouette, Melon Mambo and Crushed Curry.

The Watercolour Wings stamp set includes three stamps to make this butterfly (plus four to layer a smaller butterfly, some accent pieces and sentiments). The most solid stamp should be stamped first, with the detailed pieces layering over the top. This is a photopolymer stamp set, so layering up those stamped images is super easy too!

Stampin' Up! UK watercolour WIngs

I couldn’t leave without a close up of that lovely die-cut on the frame. The larger butterfly is from the Butterflies Thinlits dies set, and is die cut from Wisteria Wonder Card stock, with the smaller Mint Macaron butterfly from the Bold Butterflies thinlits layered onto with some Tombow glue. The 1″ Dotted Lace Trim ties into a beautiful bow too. I used Tombow to adhere the embellishment to the frame, and left it to dry overnight.

Beautiful!

Watercolour Wings just for you….

Stampin' Up! Watercolour Wings

I am loving this stamp set so much! So much that it is my Stampin@Home class for September! (more details of that at the bottom of this post!)

Stampin' Up! Watercolour wings die cut big shot

This card is a slightly different size to my normal makes, it still uses half a sheet of A4 but I have folded on the short side, rather than the long side I normally use. I love this style of card, although the change in dimensions did throw me off a little.

That wonderful butterfly is stamped using Watercolour Wings, using 3-step stamping. The first layer (and most solid) is stamped in Watermelon Wonder stamped off once, then the outer edges and body are in Mint Macaron, before I added the final details in Watermelon Wonder. One quick tip though, die cut the butterfly BEFORE stamping the body! otherwise you are at risk of cutting off his (or her) head, and we don’t like beheaded creatures!

To finish I added a scattering of sequins from the Silver Sequin Trim and some loops of the Silver Metallic thread.

So Pretty

Watercolour Wings

Stampin' Up! UK Watercolor Wings class

I have a great card for you today, I really really love this one! I have been having so much fun making loads of cards with the Watercolour Wings stamp set.

I recently took part in the Pootlers Blog Hop where I used this stamp set and die bundle to create 3 colourful cards, but today I’m keeping things a little more monotone.

Stampin' Up! UK Watercolor Wings class

I tried really hard to get this card to photograph properly, but white on white is tricky! The card base uses the brand new Thick Whisper White card stock – this card is great for card bases, and is exactly same colour as the regular Whisper White card stock, and it is lovely! but photographing, not so much!

I am loving me a bit of monotone this week (I hadn’t released that Tuesdays cards were the same colours until I sat down to write this post!) The butterfly is stamped using all three of the butterfly layers in the set, the large background butterfly is in Pool Party, the outer edges are in Mint Macaron, and the body and details are in Bermuda Bay.

Stampin' Up! UK Watercolour Wings

I love the detail stamps that come in this stamp set; that trio of dots is just so handy. Here I have used it to create a background in Mint Macaron (stamped off once). The card is finished with that lovely sentiment stamped in Mint Macaron, and the addition of two of the smaller Bold Butterflies in Mint Macaron and Vellum along with three rhinestones.

What do you think? Do you have any white on white photography tips for me? I know I have plenty more cards using my Thick Whisper White!

Pootler’s Blog Hop | Watercolour Wings

Stampin' Up! UK Watercolour wings cards

Pootlers Blog Hop-001

Hello!

Welcome to the Pootler’s blog hop! I am so excited for this hop, the lovely ladies in the team have worked so hard to create some wonderful projects (I’ve had a sneak peak, so impressed!). Please take your time around the hop, the girls would love some comments too!

Thanks

When I first saw this years catalogue this stamp set really intrigued me. The image in the catalogue is very dark, but the sample is amazing! I have to say though, I wasn’t completely convinced until I saw Sarah Berry’s lovely creations at Regional Training back in May; she created a series of wonderful cards using this set and gave us some great tips too!

Srtampin' Up! UK Watercolour Wings

Isn’t it lovely? I just love the layered nature of these stamps. The set includes two butterflies, one large and one small, over 3 stamps so you get a multi-layered image. This card I have also used one of the accent pieces to create a background and used one of the sentiment stamps. The butterfly has been die cut using the coordinating Bold Butterfly framelits dies, although the set also coordinates with the Butterflies Framelits (and Butterfly Basics!)

Stampin' Up! UK Pootles Blog Hop

I love this card! Instead of stamping the solid layer of the butterfly, I created a mask using copier paper and used my Sponge Daubers to create the butterfly. You can see this better in the video!

I created this set of three cards after making one; also using the masking technique to create the butterfly first, then adding layers. This time I only added the detailed stamp using White Craft Ink.

Stampin' Up! UK Watercolour wings video

Which card is your favourite, I have to say I think the one I created in the video is mine, I’m just loving the Watermelon Wonder colour!
