Almost time to say goodbye ….

Stampin' Up! UK Best Thoughts Card

As we approach the end of Sale-a-bration it is time to start looking to the year ahead, almost time to prepare swaps for On Stage in April, almost time to start saying goodbye to retiring products before saying HELLO! to the new things coming our way in May/June! I know that March is early to start talking about things retiring and going from our lives forever, but I really don’t want you to miss out, so over the next few weeks and months I’ll be guiding you through things that you just can’t live without…

Stampin' Up! UK In colours 2014-2016

These five colours will certainly be retiring in May, These are one of our current sets of In-Colours; Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey, Lost Lagoon, Tangelo Twist and Mossy Meadow. In-Colours last for 2 years, but we get a new set each year. These gorgeous colours though are the now ‘outgoing’ set, I know that the second the retiring list is released these colours will disappear which means that you secure yours you need to get them now! That includes the inks, card stock, ribbons and other embellishments….

This stamp set is ready to leave us too. Best Thoughts is one of this years Hostess Exclusive stamp sets, available only to party hostesses or those who spend more than £150 in a single order and therefore collect Stampin’ Rewards.

I have added a touch of Gorgeous Grunge to this card(s) too, just because why not! every card is better with a touch of Gorgeous Grunge (I am praying it doesn’t leave us this year, I love it too much, I think I might need therapy if Gorgeous Grunge retires!)

Technique Tuesday | Watercolour Background

Stampin' Up! UK Watercolour background video tutorial

One of my favourite things to do is play with colour. I love pulling inks out of my Colour Caddy and seeing how they work together, look next to each other and compliment each other to make some fabulous projects! Adding water to out Stampin’ Up!® inks is also pretty high up there on my list of favourite techniques at the moment, either using the inks as watercolour or making a colourful mess – I just love it!

Stampin' Up! UK Watercolour background video tutorial

I created this card completely on video – I am trying to remember to turn on the camera when I am playing with inks and paper, you just never know if the card is going to turn into a masterpiece or a complete mess!

Colour is so important in card making, but Stampin’ Up!® make it so simple; with colour families of matching colours and coordinating products that all work together to help you create wonderful cards, and other items too.

So, before I waffle on forever about how much I LOVE Stampin’ Up!’s® colour palate, shall we watch the video tutorial?

See, creating this brightly coloured background is super simple; just four colour of ink and a heap of water. The colours used here are Daffodil Delight, Delightful Dijon, Pumpkin Pie, and Watermelon Wonder. I did need to add some extra Watermelon Wonder as it began is dry pink, but with some extra ink added we succeeded in creating a lovely orange/coral tone for this card.

The stamping here is from Best Thoughts, one of the lovely Hostess Exclusives for this year – place an order of £150 or more to purchase this set, or host a party. The best is yet to come…

Stampin' Up! UK Best Thoughts

I love this sentiment, it is so true! I am loving my journey as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, and I know the best is yet to come!

Stampin' Up! UK Best Thoughts blender pen on vellum

The flower here is stamped in Stazon Black on Vellum, and then coloured using Watermelon Wonder and Cucumber Crush using my Blender Pens. The blender pens work amazingly on Vellum, because its a very smooth surface the ink takes longer to dry which means you have longer to blend them with the blender pen. Let me know if you fancy a tutorial video on this!

The vellum is mounted on Whisper White card stock, but with the stamped image facing the card stock, giving a softer look. The sentiment is also stamped in Stazon ink but on the outside of the vellum, so its darker than the lines of the flower. The Vellum is stuck onto the card stock using Fast Fuse – Fast Fuse is completely clear and so is great for using with vellum, still I always try and apply it under a coloured section or embellishment

I love the designer series paper mount too, its a sheet from the Cherry on Top DSP stack, and the card is finished with a couple of pieces of Cherry on Top Washi Tape

Just before I go, you only have a few more days to book onto my latest Technique Class using An Open Heart – Class costs £10 – Booking closes on Monday!

Watercolour Thoughts

Stampin' Up! UK Best Thoughts Watercolour

Over the last few weeks I’ve been playing with Stampin’ Up! inks and using them as watercolours. I love our colour palette, and the effects you can create when you add water. I will be the first to admit I am no expert watercolour artist, but I enjoy creating, I’m a card-maker, I only use stamps (my drawing is generally pretty rubbish), but I love the final result.

Stampin' Up! UK Best Thoughts WatercolourI used the brand new In-Colours to watercolour this lovely floral stamp. Its another one of the Hostess Exclusives for this years Annual Catalogue, and comes with a butterfly stamp and two lovely sentiments; ‘You’re in my thoughts’ and ‘The best is yet to come’.

This time I stamped in Momento Black ink, and added clear embossing powder. I prefer to heat emboss my images for watercolour, the raised edge helps me stay in the lines of the image, although I could have just stamped in Stazon and water-coloured without issue. I have been trying out a few different methods of water colouring, and I think this technique was my favourite, adding clean water to a section, like a singe leaf or petal, then dropping the colour in, and allowing it to move through the water.

Stampin' Up! UK Best Thoughts Hostess Code ClubOnce I had the whole image water-coloured I went back and added darker areas by using less water and more ink. The inks for this card are Watermelon Wonder and Cucumber Crush. I finished the card by added some ink splats, by loading my paintbrush with an ink and water mix and tapping the handle of the brush off of my index finger of my other hand, causing the ink to splatter the page. Lovely.

Don’t forget about my Code Club, add the code shown in the Top right hand corner of my blog to the Hostess Code box at check out to receive one of our brand new Hostess Stamp sets for FREE! This months stamp set is Floral Wings, which I used on a card last week.

Thanks for stopping by today, and I’ll see you again tomorrow!
